A team of US physicians are providing specialty consultations in five villages in Bacau County,
especially in several which lack a family doctor and the need is great.
“We decided to provide specialty consultations because from our previous experiences,
we observed that in rural areas there is a lack of access to specialty consultations
due to several reasons including financial and sometimes lack of education.”
The US team also includes eleven medical students, two nurses and a volunteer.
The team is complemented by specialty physicians from Bucharest
and medical students from Grigore T. Popa University of Iasi and Carol Davila University of Bucharest.
“People don’t have money, some don’t even have a family doctor because they have no income and it’s very good.”
“It’s good that they consult all of us, because many of us are sick.”
All consumable materials and medicines are donated by a hospital from the US.
“We provided them with two locations so they can have plenty of room to consult
so the citizens do not have to wait around and waste their time.”
The initiative of the campaign to provide free specialty consultations belongs to the Daniel Murariu Foundation registered in Chicago, Illinois and Iasi.
It is already their third campaign and will last until April 2nd, 2008.
