Hello, this is Erica Reyes with Academic Technology and Creative Services.
Today, we will discuss how to grade an assignment in SacCT.
There are three primary ways to grade an assignment: through the Needs Grading section of the Grade Center,
through the specific assignment column in the Full Grade Center or the Assignment section of the Grade Center.
Grading an assignment through the Needs Grading area is the most common way to grade an assignment.
Grading through the Full Grade Center is usually used if an instructor wants to review an assignment that has already been graded.
First, let’s go over the steps on how to grade an assignment in the Needs Grading area.
In your SacCT course, click on Grade Center from the Control Panel. Then, click on Needs Grading.
The Needs Grading page will list items that have not been graded.
These items are listed by category followed by the item name, the user name, the date the
student submitted the assignment, and the due date.
You also have the options to filter assignments by category, assignment, user, and date submitted.
For example, to show assignments from a specific student, click on the Filter button.
Then, under User, click on the dropdown menu and select the student. Then, click Go.
To grade an assignment, locate the assignment. Then, click on the student’s name to the right to open their submission.
If a student attached a file such as a DOC or PDF file for their submission, a feature called Inline Grading will be available.
This allows instructors to make comments and proofreading marks directly on to the document.
This eliminates the need to download and re- upload graded assignments.
To make a comment, click on the Add Comment button. Then, click on the Comment button.
To make a comment on a particular word, select Point Comment. Then, click on the word and type your comment.
Select Area Comment to comment on an area in the assignment.
Then, drag your cursor to form a square around the selected area and type your comment.
To make a comment about one or more sentences, select Text Comment.
Then, highlight the desired sentence(s) and type your comment.
There are also options to draw, highlight, type, and strikeout.
When you are ready to enter a grade, on the right side panel, locate the Attempt box and type in the grade.
If there are multiple attempts for an assignment, you may enter a grade for each attempt.
However, the value in the Grade area is the student’s final grade for the assignment.
You may also provide feedback in the Grader Feedback area. Once you are finished, click Submit.
If you need to review a student’s assignment after it has been graded, navigate to the
Assignment section of the Full Grade Center or to the specific assignment column in the Full Grade Center.
Then, locate the assignment column and corresponding cell for the student.
Hover over the cell and click the downward arrow. Then, click Attempt.
This will open the Grade Assignment page. To override a grade, click the pencil icon and enter the new grade. Then, click Save.
Once you are finished, click Submit.
