supporter of SCHOOL
TOOLS. It's an initiative
to help collect school
supply donations -- for
needy keiki. Joining me
this morning with more --
Helping Hands Hawaii
C-E-O -- Jan Harada. Good
morning. We are so
grateful for KITV's
annual School Tools
campaign that helps us be
able to provide school
supplies to over 1000
students living in
low-income or homeless
households. When families
have to choose between
food on the table and
school supplies, it is
most likely that school
supplies will get left
off the priority list.
This weekend's activities
at the Sam's Club
Keaamoku and Pearl City,
will help to raise funds
to purchase school
supplies as well as
actual school supplies
themselves. We say a big
Mahalo to KITV's sponsors
Leavitt Yamane & Soldner,
Sam's Club, Ashley
Furniture HomeStore,
Fisher Hawaii, Hawaiian
Tel Federal Credit Union,
Diamond Bakery, Aloha
Termite & Pest Control,
and Band-Aid. The most
high need items - spiral
notebooks, folders,
pencils, crayons for the
younger kids,
calculators, and
backpacks. Self-esteem
is fragile at a young
age, and without proper
school supplies some
children feel ashamed in
school which then can
impact their learning in
the classroom.
Classroom school supply
lists are reflecting the
nature of the economic
times -- by having more
and more classroom
supplies show up on
individual student lists
.
KITV-4 wants to help our
KEI-KI get ready for
school in the fall. Drop
by Sam's Club KE-E-AU-
MOKU and Pearl City this
weekend between 10 and 4.
The KITV-4 OHANA will be
there to collect pens,
pencils and notebooks.
Other important classroom
supplies that are needed
include paper towels,
Kleenex and Ziploc bags.
