I am Keith Schiltz. I am Senior Telecommunications & Facility
Advisor at NIPCO, Northwest Iowa Power Co-op.
Early on we were looking for many ways to interface Ethernet devices into our network
JumboSwitch from TC Communications is a Multi-Service Ethernet platform
so it was a very good device to implement RS-232, Ethernet, T1, VoIP,
and all these other different new technologies into one platform box.
We're using the JumboSwitch Network because it truly is a
Multi-Service Ethernet platform that we can use to transfer our
own circuits back to our control center or around our network
in addition to our customer circuits.
We're transporting Ethernet services along with T1, RS-232, and VoIP carrier.
We use it for our own internal network bringing back
all our information back to our control center
and we also use it for our customer circuits
also such as schools, distribution cooperatives,
and vendor carrier carriers
Currently, we have 25 JumboSwitches in our network.
We started in the fall of 2010 with our first implementation installation
we commissioned 18 JumboSwitches and then after those were installed
we grew the system to 25 JumboSwitch network switches.
One of the benefits that we really like about the JumboSwitch is that
it's a Multi-Service Platform where we can implement all of the
different IP technologies into one box from a standpoint of
being able to hot-swap modules, install the different modules
the T1 modules, the VoIP modules, the SFP, the Ethernet.
It's very easy to configure, very easy to install.
Here, we have our spare JumboSwitch MSEP tied into our network.
We can do various types of scenarios and set ups, tests.
Here, you can see for instance we have a T1 card
tied in with our T1 test set.
Here we have, a VoIP card tied in with a PBX
where we can make a hotline call
and we can program cards or set up any type of scenarios here
for ease of use right here within our department
before we take them out in the field.
One of the unique things that we really liked about
early on with the JumboSwitch
is that it had some unique features such as VoIP.
We were using or had an application for telephone connectivity
within our cooperative with some of our distribution coops
and some of our in house uses.
The thing you can do with the JumboSwitch is that you can
set up a PBX network inside the JumboSwitch card.
It is fully self-contained, you don't need an outside connection to an outside PBX,
you can network your own PBX connections
you can program your own connections.
Some of the things we're doing with that
in house we have an emergency phone for our receptionist
where she can simply roll the phone off hook
in an emergency purpose at the front counter area.
in an emergency purpose at the front counter area.
Another way we use this VoIP card is at our distribution co-op.
We have interconnectivity between us and them
so in time of an emergency like a tornado or bad storm in the area,
the phones typically will be busy, the distribution co-op can
pick up this VoIP phone hotline and call us directly
in the control center at our corporate office
and then pick up that call.
TC Communications has always been wonderful to work with
as far as their customer service goes.
They've always been a phone call away
and they have a team of technicians that have always been there
to help us with any questions we may have
as far as from adding a new node
or just any questions we may have with the JumboSwitch Network.
From a customer of TC Communications, we are very very satisfied
with the support and the help that we've gotten from TC Communications.
The nice thing about the support, whenever you call
which is very rare, but whenever you do call, for technical support or service
it's typically a first name basis, you're not a number to them,
they search after the problems and they come back with answers
for you and they help you with any problems that you would have with your system.
