Do you know how to get out of paying student loans? I’ve found out a lot about what I
can’t do regarding these things.
Like the fact that you can’t declare bankruptcy to get out of it? Or that you only get one
consolidation?
And the fact that they can intercept my tax refund check to pay it, in addition to garnishing
my wages.
That is only for federally backed student loans, not private loans.
Most student loans are federally backed. About a trillion dollars worth.
You could join the military, where they’ll forgive the loans in.ten years.
Is there a less dangerous option?
Join the civil service. After working as a forest ranger, police officer, patent clerk
or civil rights attorney, your debt would be forgiven.
As long as I don’t go postal … never mind. If I go crazy, at least I’m judgment proof.
Unlike a lot of debt, federal student loans are collectible in any circumstance. They
can even garnish your Social Security check.
I don’t make enough to make my payments.
You can request income based repayment, so that the debt is forgiven after 25 years of
payments that cannot exceed 15% of your income.
What else gets you out of paying student loans?
Well, death. Unless you have a co-signer like a parent, at which point, the parent has to
pay.
That stinks. I wish there was a contingent plan.
With income contingent repayment, payments are max out at 20% of your discretionary income.
This may be less than the amount owed for income based repayment.
I really hate how the student loans were consolidated, with higher interest, and all the interest
goes to fund Obamacare.
And now you have to have health insurance, too, and collections are by the same friendly
government.
If I could get the debt even partially forgiven, that would help me afford these insane health
insurance bills.
Not really, because you get taxed on the amount forgiven.
