This tutorial will guide you through requesting
a Graduate PLUS loan. Remember this Direct PLUS loan
is only available to eligible graduate or professional students.
First, open up your web browser.
Then, go to studentloans.gov
Click Sign In
Put in your social security number,
the first two letters of your last name,
date of birth,
and pin number. Then click Sign In.
Click on Request a Direct PLUS loan.
Look under select the loan type,
click on Graduate PLUS loan.
You will first see where you can check school participation.
You can skip this step because UT Martin does participate.
Now, fill out or review your Borrower Information.
Then click continue.
Select an Award Year.
Let’s choose 2011-2012.
Now, decide if you would like to authorize the school to use your
Graduate PLUS loan to pay for other educationally related charges
that you incur at the school. For example,
library fines, parking tickets, lab fees, and etc.
You are not required to provide this authorization.
If you do authorize, you may revoke or modify it
at any time by contacting the school.
Let’s authorize by checking the box.
Now, fill out your school and loan information.
Choose Tennessee
Then choose University of Tennessee - Martin
Then the school code/branch number
and school address will appear.
Then, specify a reason for requesting your Graduate PLUS loan.
Choose either new,
for submitting a new request,
or change for requesting a change
to the loan amount specified in a previous request.
For this tutorial, let’s choose new.
Then choose the loan amount that you want to request.
Either the amount for which you are eligible as determined by the school,
specify a loan amount,
or if you do not know the amount and will contact the school.
For this tutorial let’s choose the first one.
Then specify the loan period.
For this tutorial let’s choose
August 2012 to May 2013.
At this time you can either add another school or click continue.
Let’s click continue.
Now, review or edit your request.
Then, click continue to have your credit checked
and to submit your Graduate PLUS loan request.
And, that concludes this tutorial.
