Hey, everybody. It's Kristin Shaffer with FAB-University.com and =
FigureAndBikini.org, and I'm here to help you claim your fab body and =
live your fab life. Today I'm six weeks out. Six. Yikes. Six weeks out. =
I'm six weeks out from stepping on stage in five-inch heels with some of =
the most amazing women on the planet, and I got to tell you, in =
five-inch heels, that's not exactly my normal attire. My normal attire =
is flats and a suit or sweats and sneakers, not five-inch heels, =
therefore, posing practice, and most noticeably, strutting around in =
five-inch heels starts today. Now, before we get into today's episode I =
wanted to address some of your questions concerning FABulously Fit =
Fridays. And, yes, I am going to be issuing FABulously Fit Fridays again =
as soon as this stage prep time is over, and as soon as I get off that =
stage and whip off those five-inch heels I'm going to be back in the =
studio and producing FABulously Fit Fridays once again. So stay tuned =
for that because we got some great stuff coming up, and please do keep =
those words of encouragement coming because you all inspire me. Each and =
every one of you that write on Twitter, and Facebook, and here on =
YouTube, I read every single one and I really appreciate your words of =
encouragement. So go ahead and follow my on Facebook, on Twitter, on =
Pinterest, on YouTube, on wherever I am. I'm all over the place. So =
follow me and go ahead and send your words of encouragement. I really, =
really super appreciate it. I think you guys are really going to enjoy =
today's episode because I have my own very personal Sandra Bullock =
moment. If you remember Miss Congeniality -- Sandra, I love you -- this =
one is really fun.=20
Well, I'm about six weeks out now from stepping on stage at the Emerald =
Cup and so far things are going really well. Diet and training sessions =
are right on, right on track. I get asked a lot why I choose to compete. =
I mean, who in the right mind would strap on five-inch heels and a =
blinged out bikini and step on stage in front of an audience of =
hundreds, sometimes thousands, of people? A that's a really good =
question because sometimes I ask that myself. Well, I compete for the =
challenge. I love setting a goal and working my butt off to achieve it =
and actually achieving it. I think we all love to work really hard for =
something and try to achieve that goal and actually, you know, push =
through all the barriers, push through all the tough stuff and get to =
where we want to go and actually achieve it. I mean, it feels really =
good to work hard for something and accomplish what you want to =
accomplish. You know, the funny thing is when I was growing up I watched =
my mom struggle. I've talked about that a lot. She was heavy often =
throughout her life. She did the yoyo dieting and it was really tough. I =
mean, I would come home from school and I would just remember her laying =
on the bed bawling her eyes out because her self-esteem was so low and =
she felt very much out of power of her body in her life, and it was =
really hard to watch and I learned a lot from that. So I vowed to learn =
myself how to take care of my body properly, how to nourish it and get =
and stay in great shape. You know, when I first started doing that the =
funny thing is I first thought it was about the body. I thought it was =
about looks and that once I achieved that certain look that I would look =
in the mirror and then all of a sudden love what I see and I would feel =
better inside. The funny thing is what I learned throughout that =
journey, and this is what I teach others -- kind of the "magic pill" if =
you want to call it that -- is that it really isn't about the body. =
That's the weird thing about this is that it's really all about the mind =
and the soul, and what I learned is by taking care of myself through =
proper nutrition and clean eating and exercising, especially weight =
training, because that releases all sorts of endorphins and brings all =
sorts of benefits above and beyond cardiovascular training, in my =
opinion -- I learned that by doing all that, by taking care of myself, =
and by putting myself first by being selfish, if you want to say, =
because being selfish is not necessarily a bad thing -- I really have to =
teach women that, that being selfish is good so that you can take care =
of others -- but by being selfish and taking care of myself, which my =
mother did not do, that I was then empowered and felt powerful enough to =
improve every area of my life. So that just naturally increased my =
self-esteem. So it naturally raises your self-esteem and then it allows =
you to be the best that you can be. And, you know, I've used these tools =
and techniques and I teach these tools and techniques and it's just =
amazing to watch women around the world. I mean, probably the most =
rewarding thing for me about doing all of this, which includes stepping =
on stage, is working with women around the globe and then hearing from =
them through their emails. I've heard from ladies from Germany, from =
South Africa, from the U.S., of course, from Australia. I got a letter =
from Denmark the other day, an email from Denmark, and these women are =
for the first time in their lives feeling empowered and feeling like =
they have control. And that's the most rewarding thing for me, is to =
hear from these women and hear how by changing their body, by changing =
their physiology, that they've actually changed their lives. Another =
little known reason why I compete is to conquer my own demons inside. I =
am actually terrified of getting up on stage, believe it or not. Yeah, I =
would rather -- it's kind of funny, maybe to qualify that. I would =
rather get in front of 10,000 people and teach what I teach, you know, =
just kind of like I'm talking to you right now. I would rather do that: =
get in front of the stage and 10,000 and do this, rather than getting in =
a bikini and high heels and strutting across the stage. I mean, I =
literally have nightmares about this, my Sandra Bullock Miss =
Congeniality moment nightmares.=20
Okay. I'm okay. So I'm up here on the stage, and I've done this quite a =
bit now, but I still get nervous every time and I just hope the judges =
don't hear my heels clicking, literally clicking on the floor because =
I'm so nervous. Really. I kind of shake in my shoes. But, for me, that =
is part of the fun of the challenge because it's breaking through those =
fears. You know, we all have fears. I have self doubts just like =
everybody else does and, you know, part of this journey is just breaking =
through those self doubts and pushing through those self doubts and =
doing what I need to do to get there anyway and knowing and believing =
that it will all work out if I just do what I know will work, and it =
always does. It's amazing. So today I think we're going to head to the =
gym and we're going to be doing chest. Chest day. And chest is my least =
favorite of all exercises. I just don't enjoy training my chest, but =
what I do because I don't enjoy chest day, I couple it with a little bit =
of ab workout. I don't train my abs very much. That's one thing that I =
also have taught in other FABulously Fit Fridays, is that if you train =
your abdominal area too much, especially the obliques on the sides, that =
you will thicken your waist. A lot of women don't realize that, that =
they feel that if they train their abs that they'll lose fat there, and =
actually it can do quite the opposite, especially on the side. I see a =
lot of women that are doing side crunches and they build up their =
obliques, the sides, and they wind up thicker, which is not what they're =
trying to accomplish. So the only ab exercises that I do are just =
working the core and that seems to work pretty well for me, so by the =
time I step on stage I should have that nice little six-pack going -- =
hopefully, if everything works out. So, let's head off to the gym.
You flushed. What? I said you flushed. It's okay. What? We're just =
recording. It's fine. No worries. Thanks. We're recording. Yeah, we got =
the dog in the background and the flushing going on. Are you recording? =
Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt. I'm sorry. Hi. See what I =
have to put up with? Really? Okay. 13-and-a-ham. 13. He's 13. I don't =
get it. Now he's sitting on the floor back here with the dog. The dog. =
The dog. All right. I love you.=
