Hey, Mark Skehan here from the big picture and thanks for tuning in...
Today we are talking about the reasons why you need to install a data point at every
tv point. Ok, I this is really big topic that can go
anywhere and many people will have some sort of conflicting answer or solution to. But
let's just look at the facts. And the fact is... That "wired works"
So you may or may not know, nearly every tv hitting e market these days is what they call
a smart tv, they call them smart because they, (if given a ability to do so) can get on the
net, search you tube, share pictures and movies from your local computer, and some even have
proprietary agreements with the likes of BigPond to have an app on the tv so they can stream
specific BigPond content direct to the tv. So this makes the argument pretty much a no
brainer, but, the next question that pretty much always comes is, why can't I just use
wireless? Well, the answer... You can, but it comes
with the unreliability of wireless, and the restriction of bandwidth, meaning that if
you are streaming video content wirelessly to your tv, it puts a big strain on the average
home wifi network, and it may not be able to even keep the stream constant to the tv
without breaking down. Then if you start to use your iPhone or kids use their laptop on
the wifi, you are almost guaranteed to have dropouts.
So I'm not saying that it will stream perfectly buy putting in a data cable, that ultimately
comes down to your connection to your internet service provider and what plan you are on.
But you are ruling out any issues in your internal network of disconnection from your
network and having to reconnect.
Now you could upgrade your wireless router, but the expense of doing that, would end up
being more than just getting a data point installed.
The fact remains, and know one will disagree with me here, is that "wired works" and it's
relatively cheap and is very reliable. That's why schools and big business's are
still getting offices cabled with a stable wired solution, they do also have big wireless
networks going in, but they always install cable.
And back to a home point of view, if you want to steam to more than one tv, you need a wired
connection. So I hope that you have found this information
to your benefit, and not too technical. Keep an eye out for more videos from the big
Picture and don't forget to share this across all your social sites.
