The biblical figures date back to 1500.
What you are seeing in Puente Genil is the Bible,
every important biblical passage is represented in the figures of Puente Genil.
They were the Sacramental Acts, celebrated in front of the church
for illiterate people who could not read the Bible they made theatrical representations
called the "Sacramental Acts." In the 18th century
the church prohibited these Sacramental Acts
so Puente Genil, against this prohibition by the church throughout Spain
all biblical figure theater separated from the brotherhoods
even though it was punishable by the church they kept bringing out the biblical theater that you see now.
