Hey, this video? Yeah.
Oh. Hi guys.
Ee?
I said video not photograph. We are going to Besparmak mountain.
Er, it's going to be interesting, funny, and er Focus!
Yeah yeah yeah. Uh, so, exactly.
And, the weather also cool, it's getting cloudy.
I hope this day... will be good.
It's no. It's no...speak. Er.
Say something. Check back later for, er, how we got on, if
we are alive. We'll be alive.
The guys there, having their lunch at the back.
Enjoy your meal. We got a wave there, we got two waves there.
George is very happy, having his nice kebab, getting ready for his, climb on the mountain.
Ok, bye bye.
Right ok. Hello, I'm Keith Lay Sala and this
is the English Speaking Club. We came to Besparmak mountain today, erm, perfect weather, for
it. Erm, and, we wanted to go walking round Besparmak, er, mountain. Unfortunately, there
is an army exercise today. They are shooting, erm, now. They are shooting at the moment.
Erm, so it's very dangerous over there, erm, so we are going to go a different way. But
we will try a different route, no problem. We will go the opposite direction and we will
have fun. We're going to record some video later so you can see our day today. There
will be different people speaking and they are here today, ok. Bye for now.
Umbrella is going to fly!
Hello guys, er, er, I give you er, one information. Er, first iron found in Cyprus. Er, This this?...this
why...This why no tree here. Brilliant.
We didn't get that. The first iron was found in Cyprus. That's
why there are no trees here, George.
Actually, we are walking towards Bufavento Castle we think, we hope. Erm, that is our
new plan. Er, plans have changed. Er, yes, plans have changed. Er, before we thought
we would go to Besparmak. Now we think we will go, to, Bufavento Castle. So you can
see that, in fact yes, everything has changed.
Er, just checking. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, seven, eight, eight. Ok,
that's enough. We started with twelve, we're now eight. Er, hopefully three or four of
us will make it to the end today. Bye bye.
Bye.
Er, this is a scary moment. We just found a snake. Er, there is a snake, in fact, it's
ok, Ensar's finished it. He's killed it, it's dead, it's dead. It's ok, the snake is now
dead. Phew. Yeah, we will take it with us.
Bakhadur is asking everybody 'Are there animals in these mountains?'
What do we know? There are snakes.
Just snakes? No.
Fox. Foxes from Ensar over there.
Mountain goats. Donkey.
Mountain goats says George. Yes, I believe him.
And? Lion?
Lions, lions man! and zebras, and tigers, and elephants!
But we can't see them.
I am scared of heights. Wow, wow.
Erm. They, they're saying wow, because, we are
on the edge of the mountain now, looking into nothing!
Keith. Because there's so much mist, we're not as
scared as we should be.
So let's just check again. One, two, three, four, and we better make sure here five, six,
uh oh, oh there he is, seven, eight.
If you tired you can sleep there. Yes, again, it's that, yes. You can, can,
but shouldn't! That's the difference: can and shouldn't.
You can, but you really shouldn't.
Welcome to Scotland! Here we are in Scotland. This is our first
trip to Scotland as the Speaking Club. We came on the bus, it took about half an hour,
erm, from CIU, Haspolat. But we came here and this is, in fact, you can see, this is
Scotland, here, da da! Yes, Scotland.
Welcome to beautiful Scotland.
Guys snake! Snakes! I think you can guess who that was.
That was Bakhadur, with But snakes afraid from me.
Er, yeah. Yes, that's why we can't see any snakes.
They're scared of Bakhadur so we can't see any. They all ran away.
I don't know the flower actually. I'm just asking if anyone knows it.
Which flower? We can't see. The green one. Aloe vera.
Is that Al?
Maybe it is Aloe Vera. Aloe vera is thicker than that.
Be careful. Yeah, be very careful. It's very slippy. Don't cut your hand.
Is it that you want to know? Yeah.
Ok, be very very careful please Ensar.
This is the video, sorry! That's not video.
It's mountain onion. Mountain onion!
Something like that. Er, George has found some mountain onion for us.
It's mountain onion.
The mountain onion is uh. Would you like to try?
Is just here. Erm, mountain onion is very nice on a barbeque.
Unfortunately today, we don't have a barbeque. Not exactly barbeque weather.
Yeah, yeah, continue. Delicious mountain onion, found by George.
Keith, I tried It's a new species! them
Oh you tried eating. Ensar tried eating
what we've decided is Aloe Vera. It might not be, but we've decided it is.
Erm, Ensar's eating Aloe Vera. I would point out we have food! We, we have food with us.
Why? We, we just had lunch, and we're not hungry.
But, Ensar tried the, special Aloe Vera. We're not just gonna take everything, from the ground.
Muffled. Yeah it's warmer than I thought.
Yeah it's warmer here. No, I'm, I'm alright. Is, is anyone cold?
No, no. I'm quite warm.
Yes. People who didn't come, we are quite warm thank you!
Yeah. It's like sunbathing. Fogbathing. Yeah we're
fine. We're not cold, and wet.
We were just asking Şirin to speak English to his girlfriend on the phone, not Turkish.
Is, girlfriend is no English, no speak, bad. Just talk in English. Later you will translate.
Yeah, we can tell her what you said later, no problem.
Is, crazy. Şirin, you do know that I'm recording the
video. Yeah, it's possible. It's problem.
Er, ok this is er, the report from Scotland again.
Erm, we decided because we can't er, go to Beşparmak mountain we started walking the
other way towards er, Bufavento Castle. Yeah.
But we've got Google Earth here, technology is helping us.
And we looked and we think we will probably walk, keep walking and go from Bufavento restaurant
to Flag.
the big flag yeah. We're gonna try and go to the flag.
So it's kind of 'To The Flag!' version two for Murodali and Bakhadur
and for the rest of us version one, erm. So we're gonna see if we can go to the castle
and then go to the big flag. And er, we'll call the bus people and tell
'em not to be scared that we're not there.
Look, one two three four five. It looks like
seven students It looks like a stream.
Oh, we've seen something. Just go there.
Er, George is back in his exploring mode. Ah, hey, wait a minute, everyone is exploring.
GO on. I'll wait with Şirin.
Er, the erm, less youthful people are waiting at the road while the young people are running
up the hill. Is old people, young people.
Young, old, young, old. They are younger than us.
Us. We are older than them.
I am the oldest. Yeah.
Murodali is probably the youngest. Yes, youngest.
We don't know, but we're guessing. Is, bye.
Bye. They are running up a mountain, into the fog.
See you later! See you later!
We hope so! Keith, we will, we will meet to er, flag.
Ok, bye bye. Bye bye.
We are sponsored. Our sponsors, Snickers, the Mars company,
wanted us to say, erm, a Snickers in the mountain helps you er, To climbing climb.
So we're gonna have a Snickers break
with water and er, a little bit of a five minute rest.
If we do it, we will remember for a long time. Yeah. That's why we have to do it. No, we, we must do it.
Well, uh, yeah. Are you with me?
I want to be with you, but like I say, we need to check the time.
We're talking about, can we go up to the castle itself, Bufavento
during our newly changed plans of going towards the big flag.
Guys something ran after us.
What happened?
We saw something strange there!
I'm surprised you saw anything.
We can't see anything in this mist.
Ah, cheese. Yeah literally, cheese, cheese.
Do you like it, Keith?
Yeah, thank you very much.
Health to your hands Bakhadur.
Here is lunchtime before we go up to Bufavento Castle.
Er, you can see Bufavento Castle..... .....on the internet!
Because you can't see it today. Teacher, take.
But we're gonna try anyway. So we will
I like everything and everybody in my life! That's a nice little message from Bakhadur.
Yo. Bufavento Castle. It was part of the chain defence established against Arab raids,
which also included the castles of St Hilarion and Kantara.
It was built on the Beşparmak Mountains at a strategic position where it controlled an
important mountain pass at the outskirts of the range and its signals of fire could have,
could have been easily observed by the other castles in the evening.
Although its exact date of construction is unknown, it is generally believed that it started
as a signal tower and was later developed into a castle during the Lusignon period.
The castle named as BUFAVENTO mean, meaning 'not afraid of winds or not yielding to winds'
due to its exposure to winds practically from all direction.
After the Venetian takeover, the castle came into disuse since Venetian military strategy
was based on the utilization of forts along the seashore and after the Ottoman period
it became a site of curiosity for the travellers. Woo!
Good job. Very good job!
Beautiful. It is beautiful Şirin.
Yeah. We are, very nearly at Bufavento Castle
and you can see there are no... ....we can't see anything.
It's fog. It's, there are clouds everywhere and mist
everywhere, fog everywhere. But it's beautiful, the feeling is very strange.
Nice, very nice. You look over the mountain and you can't see
maybe more than ten, fifteen metres down. But we climbed very high so it's a very strange
feeling. We're in the clouds, and, it's a very very
strange feeling up here.
This is a Bufavento Castle. We finally came here.
But, there was too far. But also we did it, with these guys.
Bufavento Castle. I'm coming.
YES! They did to get there.
and this is such a beautiful architectural wall.
Yeah. Er, back, for like 2000 years,
Ago. This castle has been here.
And it has passed through hands and hands and hands.
Tell them about, er, meaning of Bufavento. Bufavento means....
That you're not afraid of winds. It's not afraid of winds.
As you can see when we are coming up here, we were getting wind from all directions.
From the North, the South, the East, and the West.
Go ahead. And this castle is 2000 years
ago And these solid walls are here.
And they have been here for 2000 solid years. Eh, one more time, er, tell me about Bufavento meaning.
Bufavento means 'not afraid of wind'!
Woah. Yeah man.
We came here, we did it. But we lost two people.
First one, Keith. Second one?
Ensar. Ensar.
Now we are six people. We're on top of the world, man.
We, we too tired. We are too tired.
Let's come and see here. I am taking video.
Come in and see. Ok, come in and see the fireplace.
Yeah. So this must have been where the soldiers
square off.
This is a fireplace. Fireplace, it's 2000 years old, and this is stone solid!
Solid man! So amazing! So amazing.
Bakha I think this is where guys used to stay.
There used to be guys here. Ah, there is like a balcony.
Guys used to, erm, patrol here. Oh my God.
Oh my God! Look, look.
Inside the castle. Here is like a balcony.
If you fell down, you will die. Of course. Of course you will die.
So, we are going ahead. Strong wood.
and going up. Old wood, man.
Oh, what is this? This is the place for animals.
There, er, and that time, they had Keith says 'Hurry up!'
They had a terrible animals.
Go. Ok. Go ahead.
I'm gonna see I you can still go up. What is that?
Please don't touch it. Don't touch it.
There was like, it's like, it smells like, there were animals
cow, and, something like that. Wow.
Come, come. I'm so tired.
2000 years old! Man!
This looks like new, yeah? Come here.
Take you. You can just record with this.
We'll take this one here. Right, let's go.
We'll take this one here. Right, let's go.
Go where?
There is no, no way.
Let's go guys. We've seen enough.
We've had enough. Go back?
Yeah. Where, about here?
Because we will meet up. Hey, somebody needs toilet?
No, let's go. I saw found some toilets here.
Let's go. Oh my God. There's a amazing view, beautiful
place. Imagine, fall down here.
Can I? No no, I, don't want. I don't want to imagine.
What is here? Ah, this is, look!
This is like maze.
Oh my God.
Hey guys, where are you? Down.
Down or up? Down, down down.
Be careful guys. Go ahead.
Come on, come on. Yeah. What about me?
Wow. Wow.
Wow. Bye-bye Bufavento.
Bye-bye. I will, never come.
Thank you for having us. Picture?
I'm going to shout at them now.
Er, we are waiting for the other six members of the party.
Who, erm, decided that when I said 'Let's all stay together.'
they thought that meant, on the same mountain! And they ran ahead because they're younger.
So Şirin and I are just waiting for them to come back from the castle.
Somewhere, up there, are six members of the English Speaking Club
Or the English Shouting Club as we have become on this mountain.
For example, listen: Do we have to go back?
Yes we have to go back, you can't live here. This is not the real Bufavento dormitory,
this is the Bufavento Castle. What are you doing?
We are, we are waiting for you, hoping you are all there.
Where are you? We are here.
Oh, I can see them at last. Here they come, the six, er, victors of our trip.
Erm, oo we have Murodali wearing his, er,
fluorescent yellow. Ensar is there and Ade is there, George.
We are complete. Yeah, we did it.
Oh right, and all of you are together still. That's what makes me happy.
Be careful Murodali. We did it.
Well done guys, well done. We made it!
They made it. The champions.
I hide from them. They will afraid now.
BINGO!
We are, er, here on, er, Bufavento Castle mountain.
Walking down after six out of eight people got right to the top.
Şirin and I decided that we will come back again when the clouds are gone, a different day,
to complete the journey. But, everyone is very happy.
It's the first mountain for, maybe half of our group, today.
Their first mountain so they're very happy. We're all very happy, it's a good day.
And er, we are walking down, down hill now so it's easier than before.
Er, when we were walking uphill we were very tired.
But, now we are walking downhill we are ok and
in maybe five minutes we will be walking on the road again.
Er, and, if we continue, then we will be in Taşkent near the big flag, for around about
five fifteen, five twenty, we hope, in the evening.
And we can go home and we will all relax very much I think
and never move again! Yes.
Isn't that right Şirin? Hi!
It's nice. It is nice, it's beautiful.
Beautiful. I don't know where the other guys are.
I'm trying to find them now. Er, maybe they have finished the walk down
and they are waiting for us in the car park. I think that I am correct.
They, yes, they have finished the walk and they are waiting.
So, no problem in two minutes we will have finished this walk too
and then we can relax for two minutes, have some water and then continue on.
This is Keith and Şirin Yes.
with the English Speaking Club Yes, speaking!
on Bufavento mountain.
The guys here have just finished climbing the mountain.
They went to the castle, Bufavento and they did a very good job, and they
We did it. You did do it.
And now, Ensar.
Er, sorry not Bufevnto, Edinburgh Castle. Edinburgh Castle.
Yes because we are in Scotland, of course.
They went up, all the way up to Edinburgh Castle.
Ok. We are walking along the road now, towards Taşkent from Bufavento Castle.
We have been walking for about three hours this afternoon so far, maybe more.
In the mountains and we went up the hill,
the mountain. And the weather is perfect in Scotland
as you can see.
Er, this is a message for Emmanuel and Enes.
and Enes. Er, you didn't get up today, you stayed in bad.
This is what you could have been doing.
Yeah, you could have enjoyed lots! Yeah, you could have been up here in Scotland.
If we keep saying it, they'll believe it. Er, so you know, you stayed in bed, but
here is what you could have done. Look.
Oh wow. Yes that stone could actually fall on us.
The sun is breaking through the clouds at last!
Edinburgh. In Edinburgh.
They are going. Wow.
Oh. Wow.
Ah, this is a beautiful moment. All day we've been stood in clouds.
But it's too late! We have been in clouds for maybe three and
a half hours and now the clouds are clearing and we can see the beautiful surroundings
and all of Cyprus over there. All of Cyprus?
Sorry, Scotland, all of Edinburgh. So, we're very happy.
We're starting to see everything just as we're, hopefully, coming towards the end of our journey.
I will sleep well. Yes, we will all sleep well, Bakhadur.
We will, sleep very well. Like, like a
Like a baby!
We are really starting to see everything. Finally!
Finally, yes, finally we can see everything. We are, we are watching as the clouds are clearing.
And we are starting to understand, where we are
and how far we have come. So we are feeling pretty good.
Because we started Woah woah woah!
At fivefinger mountain, Beşparmak mountain. This way.
Oh no, the cloud is coming back. No, go away!
Woo! Oh wow, and here we are! Yeah! We're at the flag! O-ho!
We did it!
Woo! This is
Woah! Woo!
It's the flag! Yeah!
Again! We did it!
For you guys. We did it!
Yes we did. Oh wow!
That's a very good feeling coming down out of the clouds
I'M ON TOP OF THE WORLD! and seeing, seeing Scotland from up here.
It's such a beautiful view. We're very happy and
If we're very clever, we can work out where the university is
Cyprus International University Yeah, it's over there.
I can see it. There.
I got it. There, there!
I'm gonna zoom in to where we are all members, in one way or another.
Students or, in my case, teacher. CIU WHAT'S UP, WHAT'S UP?
What's up CIU? We say hello, to you.
We have, we've just come to an amazing part of our journey.
The cloud has cleared and as you can see on the mountains, it's just rolling off now.
Rolling off the mountains. And we've also, we came to the flag, and look
over there, the sun breaking through onto, Scotland.
So, we are very happy now, we can see everywhere. All day, all we've seen is white, white, white,
white, white, and now we can see everything. We're very happy.
This is Taşkent down here. Er, Taşkent is a suburb of Edinburgh.
Very far into the distance you can see Cyprus International University over there
In Edinburgh. Er, yes, in Edinburgh. Edinburgh campus.
Erm, so if I just work out... Oh yeah, there it is.
There's the CIU Arena, our lovely sports centre. There's our accommodation over there.
Prep School! Hooray! There we are. And there is the campus.
The library is there somewhere, hello my wife. Really?
Yeah, we can see the library is there, CIU Arena. CIU!
CIU!
It's just, over there somewhere.
Music.
We've had a great day together.
Er, very nice group. Very nice bunch of lads. They've had a very good time today
and they're very happy, I'm very happy. And, look at the background that they can see.
That is, if you listen carefully, the sound of happy students whistling.
They're all whistling.
Some happy guys here and they've really got on well together today.
And made some new friends together climbing their first mountain together for
quite a few of them and it's been a very nice day.
Er, we came to climb Beşparmak mountain, Beşparmak mountain today.
We wanted to climb Beşparmak mountain, but the Turkish army were working
er, with guns, erm, practising on the mountain and around the mountain.
So they said we can't go there, or we couldn't go there.
Erm, so we decided to walk the other way. We went to Bufavento castle and we decided
to make the climb up. Most of us, most of them, made it, erm, all
the way to the top. And then we decided to keep walking all the
way to the, near to the big flag. The biggest flag in the world, over here.
And it's been a very very nice day. And these guys are having a very nice, Semester
break in Cyprus.
Walking now towards where we need to meet the bus driver.
We have plenty of time, so we can relax, enjoy the walk.
They're whistling away and happily. They're very tired, we're all very tired,
but they're happily skipping and whistling. So they had a very nice time and
We're all, erm, very very happy.
This is, the view that we have now that the clouds have cleared and
we have been waiting all day to see this view, to see out there.
And the clouds have cleared, erm. When we arrived at the mountains it had been
raining most of the morning so it was very difficult to see very far
and there was very thick fog and we had been hoping that it would clear
but we didn't know, and then maybe the last ten minutes, fifteen minutes
it's cleared up and we can see everywhere, everything
and it's beautiful. We are going to be, we 're going to be picked
up later by the bus driver, er, not very far from here
really so we're just having a nice, relaxing walk
now and we will sleep well tonight.
Guys, if I fall off the mountain backwards, er, tell my wife I love her.
You won't. You won't.
Ok, I hope not. Yeah.
Did you call? Yeah, the bus, yeah, the bus will meet us,
don't worry. Bakhadur is asking about the bus.
We are, we're maybe, we have twenty minutes before we should meet the bus
and we're probably about nineteen minutes from where we need to be.
No, we, we're fine. We have no problem. We're on target to be ready.
We don't, we don't need any medicine. No, no, we're fine.
We didn't need any, you know, help of any kind.
We've all had lots of water and food Sword!
Yeah, umbrellas Nice, we all wore good clothing for the terrible
weather that we started with. Strong legs!
Strong legs, we've all made it. Everything's gone right.
Everything's been fine.
Normally we don't want follow road but Yeah. Ensar wants to be climbing in the mountains.
He doesn't want to follow the road. I think that's, that's like Ensar's motto,
in life. Like Ensar's motto is 'I don't want to follow.'
I want my own road. Yes.
True. Rules are made to be broken.
Ah, well, that's Murodali's rule in life. I think Ensar, yeah, Ensar wants to find his
own road. Sometimes we have to follow somebody.
Ah, Bakhadur thinks sometimes you have to follow.
Sometimes, no, not all of time. Murodali thinks just break the rules.
Yeah. What does Şirin think?
What do you think? What do I think?
I think erm, I think sometimes yo do have to follow other people
and sometimes you do have to think about rules but I think Ensar's thinking of find your
own road is a very nice way to think. Well, yeah, huh.
Why not? Why not? Why not? That is, Ensar.
If Ensar had a t-shirt, it wouldn't say Like Nike says 'Just Do It', Ensar's would
say 'Why not?'
Doing all of the things we just said. We are following the guys down here.
But we said it. but we're breaking the rules by going off
the road but we're doing what Ensar says by finding
our own road. This is it! This is what it's all about!
Nice place for a movie. Yeah, this is very nice.
It's a beautiful place to end our journey through Scotland.
This is Finally I saw tree in Cyprus.
Exactly! It's beautiful in the trees here. It's very very nice.
Uh, we're at the old Monastry.
It was too interesting, amazing trip And er, I liked it.
I think guys also like.

Ok, we came today to climb round Beşparmak mountain, we didn't
Because the Turkish soldiers were, er, having an exercise.
So we changed direction and went to Bufavento castle and walked all the way along to the flag.
The journey was really good and the weather
was terrible then it cleared up and it was a great experience
but more than that it was a nice group of friends coming together
and that's why I've really enjoyed today. Thank you.
