So the first step in building up our jazz ride pattern is to think about it as a six
note, or a six beat phrase, where we're going to count sixes and we're going to play on
the one, the four, and the six. So I'll just do that. So, first I'll just play here so
it's quieter... 1-2-3-4-5-6, 1-2-3-4-5-6, 1. And now I'll play that over here on my
ride... 1-2-3-4-5-6, 1-2-3-4-5-6, 1-2-3-4-5. That is going to develop into our staple of
jazz. It's really going to be the catalyst for all the different exercises we do, working
with syncopation and a whole number of other things that we can do. Again, as we get more
advanced we can start embellishing it. For now, you really you could practice this for
hours and it wouldn't be too much.
That's the basic jazz pattern.
