Augmented reality is a seemingly abstract notion.
That's why I have a diagram. I'll come back to it later.
To explain it more clearly, we're talking about
the display of additional graphic layers, geolocalized information...
...on a mobile screen, through built-in cameras, on devices...
...mobile devices, essentially, smartphones.
This happens in real time, right there and then.
The camera on a mobile device captures the image of a place and/or object,
analyzes and recognizes the image,
recognizes its shape and elements and then, through the application,
superimposes layers of information on the screen,
which will provide us with information
on the interpretation of those places or objects.
This often involves text, images, modelling, reenactments.
Here we have a mobile device, a smart device.
Let's, for example, take an urban scene
and someone who has created an application that reads,
in augmented reality, what's captured via the object's camera...
A layer can then be added by the networks.
We get additional, complementary information about the image.
It's an overlay.
We can really look at it in terms of layers. The advantage for museums is that
it increases the space tenfold and places it in virtual reality,
making it possible to add, modify or complete the reality.
It's really interesting and very effective.
There aren't many initiatives, but there are some relevant ones.
There are spaces, monuments, objects, artworks, that benefit from this technology.
A practical example is the Street Museum created by the Museum of London,
where you can wander through the city streets and receive,
through your mobile device, additional information
that gets added to the image, captured directly by the mobile's camera
in real time, in situ, right there and then.
