Hi, I'm Laura from youngwritersworkshops.com and I'm going to talk about how to become
a certified grant writer. This question was a little surprising to me, I actually hadn't
been aware that there was such a certification so I looked into it a little bit and there
is an organization that offers grant writing certification but I have to say that in my
experience as a grant writer, I've never known an employer or a foundation or an agency that
was specifically looking for a certified grant writer. I believe that there is an online
certification course offered by an organization but I want to just reinforce that your experience
as a writer and a person who is involved with that non-profit world is much more valuable
that a certification that you've earned from a brief course. So I recommend that you go
about becoming a grant writer by finding a local agency or a non-profit training organization
that potentially could be an online course or it could be an in-person course or better
yet, volunteer your services working with another grant writer where you could learn
sort of as an apprentice. Those are some other ways you can become a grant writer and get
some really good hands-on experience. Get specific information about what works for
grant writing, what doesn't work. Focus your time on becoming experienced and learning
the ropes by doing and you'll become a very good grant writer.
