Welcome to the kids carnival!
It’s our third annual healthy kids carnival. Bounce houses and face-painting, just a ton
of fun. It’s not only for kids of all ages but also for parents. It is a great opportunity
for parents to come out and take a look at the services we offer here at Boys Town Hospital.
Here I am! How’s your foot? Better?
We’re out here today to get kids out and encourage them on some healthy habits whether
it be healthy eating, drinking water instead of juice and soda and also sports. We have
a lot of sports organizations here to get kids involved.
We decided to get the kids out of the house and come out here. They actually go to Boys
Town Pediatrics. The kids are having a lot of fun especially with the Taekwondo, getting
to throw people around and kick boards with their feet. They’re having a blast. I think
the exercise is really important to our family. Getting the kids out from in front of the
computer or T.V. and get them outside to actually exercise is a big thing for us.
This is what I want your plate to look like three times a day, fruits vegetables, protein,
A lot of the parents are looking for information on the new plate model which is a description
of how we want our kiddos to eat throughout the course of the days. The kiddos learn by
example, if the parents aren’t eating it then the kiddos aren’t going to eat it.
Ultimately, we want to make sure our parents are incorporating a healthy and modeling what
they want their kids to eat. There is no way you are going to get your child to eat broccoli
if dad and mom are turning up their nose at broccoli.
We have a 4-year-old daughter and a soon to be 1-year-old daughter and these are things
that we probably should be better at teaching at home. This is a great place for us to pick
up some of that information and have fun doing it.
I’ve got a 9-year-old, a 3-year-old and a 19-month-old and they are all having fun,
great range for different ages.
I love all the activities for the kids. The Zumba was great. They had fun dancing. Eddy
liked the Zumba a lot. We have dance parties at home so he has practice.
Give me big smiles guys, smile!
It has grown significantly. The first year we anticipated about 500 hundred people, last
year we had 15 hundred and we even have more people this year.
We really think that our families know how important it is to start kids out early with
healthy habits, healthy eating habits, the exercise habits, and it show when they show
up to things like this.
Boys Town has done a wonderful job of not only bringing out a variety of helpful exercise
options but also they have brought out a lot of helpful health information. Information
on the different services that Boys Town is providing and different services the community
is providing. I think it’s a really neat opportunity for people to get all the information
in one swoop.
