bjbjLULU Clues You Can Use Tip #3 December 2011 Listening to Myself Hi there, I m Tracey
Carruthers, your Executive Coach to a Leadership State of Mind. Here s a Clue You Can Use to
access Clear, Effective Thinking. For some time now I ve been aware of the fact that
I talk too much. Ask me a question and it s an invite to share. Trigger a memory in
my heart and you get two minutes, minimum. ve been getting clues from my friends. She
always has a story to tell. Are you going to narrate this scene too? Can we get back
to my story now? s a thought habit this need to narrate, compare, illustrate, and go deeper
is something I ve been doing for a long time now. My very first clue was coaching from
a mentor and friend, Penny Rock. Early on in our relationship she told me, s okay to
have an unspoken thought. Now that I am aware, I hear myself clearly. Some of it is good,
some of it is unnecessary relevant but unnecessary. I have to keep in mind that we are all busy;
focused on our next task, or maybe our last. Most of us are willing to listen and most
of us have our limits. So I ve begun to focus on getting to the point, with clarity and
purpose; allowing space for humor and relevance and me. I don t have to watch what I say or
change my behavior in any way. Now that I am aware, now that I am conscious of the impact
of my words on the listener s experience I realize my old thought habit no longer serves
my needs and my thinking has changed. s not necessary to say it all in one chance conversation.
It is more helpful to make the point, engage in a dialogue that will benefit all parties,
and maintain respect for everyone s time and patience. s that? I m getting better. Thanks
for listening. Until next month, remember to listen deeply to your inner voice of intuition,
to everyone, and especially to yourself more clues are waiting for you, exclusively. Take
