If I asked you just one question...
What would you tell me?
Your name? The nation you belong to?
Your religion? Your profession ? Your academic degree?
Are you a football club fan? Are you a gambler?
An alcoholic? A mother of two? A dog lover? A war veteran?
Is that WHO you are?
Most of the time we choose to oversimplify the entire human complexity.
To observe it through such a filter that makes us
miss the fact that we are all diversely different.
One of those filters is the so-called National Identity. What is that?
Is it the color of my passport? Is it the language a speak?
Is it the territory on which i live? Or maybe the territory on which I was born?
If throughout the years the blood changes, if the territory changes,
if the name of your country changes..the flag, the crest, the anthem...
The language changes, the music.... If the culture changes...
What is there left? Is it only an abstract idea?
What is national identity? Do we still need it?
Does it make rational sense to feel pride or shame because of it?
Does it make sense to defend it or wage war because of it?
Is it possible to live without the oponnent? Without the enemy?
If we decided we donĀ“t "need" something that is deeply embeded
in our building tissue can we get rid of it?
Can ideas beat the genes?
Can Reason beat the Instinct?
There are lots of questions to be answered, and a lot more to be asked...
Let us explore and ask them together...
What is your opinion?
What is your identity?
