I like teaching because of the interaction.
for the youth. These are very impressionable students.
who I have at their age. So i can interact with them, get them excited about learning.
And that's what I like about teaching.
I value higher education becuase I got mine later in life.
And I know how it's going to change the lives of these young people.
If they can just get interested in and excited about learning.
Jenny: I nominated Dr. Hayden as a faculty favorite because she's been the best teacher I've had throughout my academic career
from first grade all the way through college.
She inspires you to reach for your dreams and figure out what you want to do.
She doesn't give busy work. She gives work that's going to help you in the real world when you graduate.
Something I value is my time and she certainly doesn't waste it.
Hayden: There's no point in these students sitting in this classroom
going to UofL leaving here with a degree
and not being able to take some tidbit out of every class
every course and it becomes real in their life.
There's no point in sitting through a whole semester
and not letting it be relevant to your life.
My job is to get this material across.
In order to do that I have to make sure that student
that individual is feeling good about themselves when they leave.
Jenny: My dad is a retired police officer, my mom a retired social worker.
and Theresa has a social work degree.
I actually went to her at one point for life help.
I don't know what I want to do in life, what do you suggest?
because of her knowing both fields very well she was able to guide me where I wanted to go.
Theresa: I know somehow or another I have something inside me that's able
to connect to them.
And change their lives. I know that I have good rapport with the students
and that's exciting for me. I didn't know it was that much.
So I'm very honored with it and very humbled with it.
