Hello
You managed to tune in again, which makes us quite happy.
Second episode of Magabotato, one week since the last.
And this week has seen a few news, releases and rumours.
Here are the news.
Starting May 22nd, The Army Painter offers their Warpaints Wargaming Starter Paint Sets.
It contains 10 colours, 2 brushes and primer spray in black or white.
The price is 30 Euros, which makes it a killer deal, compared to the set offered by Games Workshop.
Sciborminiatures introduced their new range of Minotaur miniatures this week.
The design of the resin minis is taken from the classic tales and except for a small flaw
"Oh, armpit"
they are superbly modelled and come across as menacing without being overblown.
The price ranges from 19 to 23 Euros, depending on the model, which we think is a fair deal.
Keep up the good work Scibor.
The fourth Role Play Convention in Cologne will be held on the 17th and 18th of April.
Their tabletop corner has been extended a lot and tournaments, trialgames and much more will be held.
Magabotato will be there to report, of course. So come on over and see you on RPC.
Building terrain isn't for everybody.
One lacks the ideas,
one lacks expertise
and yet another is all thumbs.
Like me.
OH NOO.
Yes, so in our category "Studio" we'll show you step-by-step guides
for building terrain and the conversion of miniatures.
Because seeing is better than reading.
Presented by Dennis, our master of polystyrene architecture.
It's another Dennis though, which probably better for you.
Definitely better for you.
Roll it.
Studio
Welcome to the studio.
Here we will dive into the subject of terrain building.
We'll start off easy, so everyone will be able to follow
but we'll step it up a notch later, so even the pros might learn something here.
Today we'll be building a hill, so even the younger and inexperienced can try it.
For this part of the lesson we will only need two things.
A boxcutter and some expanded polystyrene.
Let's start with the difference between polystyrene and styrofoam.
Styrofoam is of a lesser density, comes apart easily and generally produces lots of waste.
Expanded polystyrene is a lot denser, tougher and easy to cut with a knife.
You can easily find this stuff in any hardware store, the polystyrene usually comes in big sheets.
You can either ask someone there to cut it for you or just use your own box cutter.
The cornerstone is, of course, being careful.
It's up to you to cut towards or away from your finger but only make small cuts.
It's better to start one little cut over and not just use brute force, otherwise...
OH NOOOOOOOO
This little piece is about 15x15 centimeters (5.9 in).
It's still a way off from looking like a hill, so let's change that a bit.
Remember, careful cuts.
As you can see, a clean cut, no debris.
When cutting your hill, make it inclined.
You can do so in multiple cuts, so it looks more natural.
Also, cutting a tiny piece off of the bottom is a good idea.
It makes for greater stability.
Leaving the edge might cause it to break, or the paint to flake.
We don't want a flat edge like this, so let's give it a pattern.
I'll start at this corner, by cutting from two different directions.
Repeat this a few times for a cliff-like pattern.
You've got one week to practice 'til you're as good as me.
For next week we'll need sand, glue and if possible, an old brush.
Until then.
Sometimes you see something that you just have to own.
Don't think about it too long, you'll find too many reasons not to buy it.
If the tag says "Limited" or "Two for One" however, it's gonna be tough to resist.
When Denis saw that "Raging Heroes" was both of those, his mind was set.
An odyssee almost like the one written by Homer, only more dramatic.
January 14th
They'll be sent today.
Next week, they're mine.
I sat there on this dark, snowy day and fantasized about assembling them,
painting them,
and crushing my enemies under Ashara's bootheels.
A good day.
January 16th
An email.
Dear customer, we're sorry...
Damn, this godforsaken winter got in the way of casting the molds.
Two weeks of delay.
Fine, I can wait that out.
It can't snow forever.
Goetterdaemmerung turned out to be something, that's been missing for a long time.
A germanmade tabletop that can actually be found outside of a hobbyist's cellar
and on the international market.
We met the inventor of Goetterdaemmerung and interviewed him about his quasi-one-man-show.
Goetterdaemmerung takes place on the fictional world of Tharwyn.
There a war rages on, between the gods and an old ressurected race
as well as the other nations of the world affected by their struggle.
The inspiration cames from classic fantasy and science fiction steampunk tales like Jules Verne's.
We tried combining cardgame and tabletop aspects,
for example, we individualized the order of initiative.
The game is very fast-paced and packs a lot of action.
Even when you're about to loose, you can always make a comeback with superior tactics.
I myself have been a steampunk fan for a long time.
Most people will know movies like "The League of extraordinary Gentlemen" or "Wild Wild West".
Of course we've been influenced by videogames a bit, as the virtual generation.
Talking about inspiration, this little guy right here reminds of "Bioshock" quite a bit.
Yeah, since the first release of the "Sand Diver" here, that's been a topic here.
That's because both the designers of "Bioshock" as ourselves
have rummaged around the aquatic domain for ideas.
The main design point for the Shal a Rhaam are aquatic elements ported into the desert,
the sea of sands if you will.
Since "Bioshock" takes place below the waves, it's easy to recognize an old diver's suit.
Add the drill needed for tunneling through sand and you're dangerously close.
That's no pickled herring, is it?
Those are our add-on packs, what's in plastic blisters for other tabletop games.
We're the first to pack miniatures into brass cans and we're rather proud of that idea.
We'll release our first rulebook this April, 116 pages, bound.
In summer we'll introduce our new dwarven faction
and during autumn there will be new modules for the rules,
a terrain generator for example, allowing to construct your table with a set of cards.
The neutral faction will also see numerous new models,
I think until the end of the year, we will have a respectable range of miniatures.
And it's over already, the second episode.
Last week, Delia asked you to visit our channel a lot.
And you did it.
We're saying goodbye and leave you to your well-earned striptease.
See you.
