Check out some of these clubs right here on campus.
Del Oro offers students many opportunities to get involved this school year;
joining clubs is a great way to start.
With clubs such as the upcoming GSA club and book club, Del Oro hopes to reach out to
individual interests.
The clubs at Del Oro are such a great opportunity for kids to get involved
to feel like they belong
and to explore their passions
and their career interest areas. Students are given opportunities to voice their ideas
and start their own clubs here on campus.
We wanted to know more so we met up with a few of the students to hear
what they had to say.
I am starting a GSA at Del Oro which is a gay straight alliance.
A gay straight alliance is a national network
that starts these kinds of clubs all across the country.
It's to bring together people of all backgrounds and all *** orientations.
I think as a whole there's not a lot of diversity at Del Oro and I think a
club like this will be good to
expose people, educate people, about that sort of diversity, and giving them
new opportunities to be part of something big
because this is embracing
a huge movement, a worldwide movement,
its civil rights reenactment, and this is giving students a chance to be a part of it.
I'm hoping it will get them more interested in books and
and different genres of books. We'll have
people come up with different books that we can read
their different ideas. We already have a couple of books planned out that we will read
but I'm hoping that it will
encourage people to critically think more,
and to
become more educated in books;
important part of decision making.
I was hoping on starting on
on books like Anthem by Ayn Rand,
a couple short stories like The Tale of Goodman Brown;
so far there's a couple that we need to come up with.
I was thinking Catch 22, books like that will open people up to,
again, thinking about the hidden meanings
and debating on the themes that these books represent.
For new students sometimes joining a club can be their way in
to a new group of kids. Whenever I'm enrolling students that's
what I always suggest is join a club or a sport, but clubs are sometimes easier to join than a sport, and
that's the way that they can join a whole new group of students
and experience something they've never done before, try new things,
and meet new people. That's really great for new kids.
If you have any questions or interests in these clubs please visit your counselor or
go to delorohigh.com.
That's some
fantastic clubs! Thanks for watching your Del Oro News. I'm Jansen Engelbrecht.
And I'm Jay Shane. And you, stay golden eagles.
