Researchers at Rand Corporation recently put out a study that said that the nursing shortage
trend is actually reversing. According to their findings from 2002-2009 the number of
women in their early 20’s who are entering into the nursing profession has actually increased
by 62%. This is great news considering all of the news headlines that we keep hearing
about nurse shortage affecting the United States and the healthcare system.
So more specifically the researchers also say that there are several reasons for the
rise in the nursing profession. One is that there has been an increase in nurse training
programs and also that those training programs are geared towards getting nurses trained
faster, and in addition they also said that because of the recent economic down turn that’s
also the reason why more nurses are getting into the profession in their early 20’s
and also why a couple of nurses are going back into the profession who may have retired
early or had only been working at a per diem pace since then.
So this is great news for the nursing shortage that the trend is reversing.
