The average teenager needs a little over nine hours of sleep to function properly throughout
the day. But most teens aren't getting enough sleep.
We'll tell you why on this Project Health. The level of light that our eyes see at bedtime
can cause us to sleep or stay awake. But most teens use tablets and smart phones
that emit a spectrum of light that keeps them awake.
Our eyes are particularly sensitive to the light emitted by smart phones and tablets
which are in the blue-green spectrum. Teenagers particularly are very sensitive
to the effect of this light which resets the internal clock which makes it harder to fall
asleep. It is important to switch off these devices
at least an hour prior to bedtime. So remember, your brain needs recharging just
