Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition and it affects 1 in 50 people.
Men and women are equally affected and it often develops between the age of 11 and 45.
Psoriasis is not fully understood but genetics does play a big part in it and in fact 1 in 3 people have a close relative who actually suffers from the condition.
Patients that come into my pharmacy tell me that it makes a massive impact to their everyday life.
They're embarrassed by it, if they go on holiday they're embarrassed to expose their skin
so it can be quite distressing, quite emotional and it can make people quite withdrawn and self conscious about the condition.
There is no cure for psoriasis, traditional methods of treating it is by using emollients and steroids.
It can sort of improve the condition of the skin, but new barrier repair creams are a great option so speak to your pharmacist.
