One of the most common mistakes that people make once they get on the unicycle is that
they're going to be on it, they're holding on to whatever their support is and they're
leaning way, way back and have the unicycle wheel out in front. My theory is that people
are used to seeing the wheel out in front because of bicycles and so that's where it's
comfortable. You can see it. You know what the wheel is doing and you feel like that's
where it should but if that's what you're doing, you're not on top of the wheel. So
that's one of the biggest mistakes you can make. Another one is people don't think about
this a lot but obviously a unicycle does not have a chain. You can't coast on it. It's
a direct drive so if you push the pedal forward the unicycle is going to go forward and if
you push it back it's going to go backwards too and sometimes it throws people off when
they pedal backwards and they're not expecting it to go backwards. So always keep in mind
this is all one unit. This is direct drive. The pedals and the crank are connected directly
to the wheel and you want to stay balanced on top of it not behind it so that the wheel's
in front of you because this is not like a bicycle.
