Welcome back to Part 5! And...it's also LEVEL 5 (sorry I wasn't able to show the closeup with Jim and level title, I was a little slow recording this video).
You have to get up this escalator to advance...which for some reason Jim can't just WALK on, like stairs.
Up here is where the switch is to activate the escalator. The giant black orbs cause an electric shock a split second after landing on them, so quickly jump off them upon landing.
I'm guessing they couldn't think of a better name for this level. Nothing sounded funny with a scientific name I guess.
"Overly Exaggerated Lab of Science"? No, too long...
Mmm...
I got nothing.
Owww!
According to Gamepro Magazine, though Jim only shoots in 8 directions, Jim's bullets spread out in a total of 64 directions.
Though it still didn't appear to help when I got hit earlier.
Now despite these 8 chutes here, In this first section they only appear from the upper-right, left, and upper-left and repeats.
Well, it's SUPPOSED to repeat...
As long as you're in this cage, you can't be hurt from anything except those enemies that come form the chutes.
You also can't grab any hooks while in the cage either.
Now in round two, the order is left, upper-left, right, upper-right, then repeats.
Though it might be best to not hesitate when shooting...
Missed it by THAT much...again.
This guy opening these green gates is the creator of the suit Jim wears. His name is Professor Monkey-For-A-Head.
He's called that because...well, he has a literal monkey for a head and they share the same brain and eyes.
The full name of the suit is "Ultra-high-tech-indestructible-super-space-cyber-suit"
Or UHTISSCS, but I wouldn't know how to pronounce it.
Aw, crap. Sometimes depending on the timing of when you shoot him, the gate will stay open enough that enemies will constantly be coming out of it.
Hmm, to go in or not to go in...
I think I will.
This is a completely optional level. There's not much in it, though. It's been awhile since I last went into it, so this will be interesting.
The enemies are literally just these red eyes. If they walk into a light, all you can see is red eyes.
The goal is to find the exit door in each section while avoiding the enemies.
There are some items to get, but I don't know how to get all of them.
Like that 1-Up I missed up above the exit.
You'll just have to guess where the platforms are and just look for Jim to grab the edges.
Also jump from light to light as there are gaps in between them.
Well, that's two down...
To this day, I've never found out how to get that 1-Up. I'm guessing there's a hook or something to swing off of but I don't know where.
Did you see how that enemy was just nothing but eyes?
Anyways, just jump up from left to right in this section to find the door.
Well, I can't seem to find a hidden path of any kind for the 1-Up so, I'll just move on.
Now in this section there are a couple of hooks to swing onto. Be sure to get a running start to get past all the enemies.
This is the last section. But just before the end, a monster with giant eyes appears and will chase you, causing damage if he gets close enough and is invincible.
When he appears, you need to retreat back until you get to the top of a hill and jump over it. Then just run all the way to the final exit.
Ah, there it is.
Now where is that hill.
Well...I found the hill but didn't quite make the jump...
Well, let's try it again...
The very first time I got past the big eyes, he didn't turn around to chase me and just kept on going and just completely disappeared.
However, that was the only time I could get that to happen. He just chased me the other direction every time afterwards.
Ah, there's the big eyes. Maybe I need to go a little further to a different hill...
Well, I missed the hill and went right to the beginning...but I still was able to jump over him so, oh well.
And there ya go. I'm guessing the level is just a trap for Jim, as I don't know what other purpose it would serve. Certainly not worth going in, if you ask me.
Jump a little past this teleporter to get some ammo, though you'll still have to jump in it in order to advance.
This sublevel has sections that separate you from your suit and are unavoidable, so you'll have to rejoin with the suit each time while avoiding enemies and electric shocks.
Here's the first one. While the fans separate your head form the suit, they also shoot Jim over these spike things and let Jim destroy those green enemies if he hits them as well.
Hehe, Jim is just as fast as the conveyor belt without the suit.
Come on, get in there...
Come on, get in there...There we go.
Now then, run back to those hooks to get a 1-Up, though be careful on the way back.
Now then, run back to those hooks to get a 1-Up, though be careful on the way back...And the way to it...
Also watch out for the green enemy up above.
When going back, try to just barely touch the fans so the suit doesn't get too close to the spike thing.
And that was too close...
That's better.
And here's the second part. This time, Jim's head can collect some health and powerups which somehow get added to the suit, despite being separated from it.
If you don't make the swing across with that hook, you have to backtrack all the way back to those fans again.
Down here is a super health and 800 ammo, though be careful not to fall down the pit in the process.
Ow...
Again...
The sublevel exit is right here, but unfortunately you can't just jump up from here.
Thought you had to double swing here, guess not.
Oh, son of a...!
Frickin missed one. Son of a ***...
Well, part 2 of the level is done (part 3 if you count the dark level). Now for part 3 (or 4)...Jump behind these pillars for some ammo and a super health.
(Ow...) As if you couldn't tell, this is the longest level in the game, and is pretty long even without the dark level.
The Professor returns and throws mini explosives at you. If you shoot at him from the front, he just moves back slightly. But if you shoot him from the other side...
He'll retreat entirely and disappear to the next chain below.
Once again...Ow.
This next part has those green holes releasing the eye enemies. However, there's a neat little trick to get by them.
All you have to do is whip the green openings and they'll blow up.
Makes it a WHOLE lot easier to get past this part.
This is the last time the Professor shows up, he's actually one of the few enemies to not die in this game, which is actually pretty impressive.
Here's a little luck-based bonus for you. Whip this red wheel and a random item will appear, ranging from those blue health atoms, to plasma blasts, to 1-Ups...
But only for the first 5 whips. Then random enemies appear and the items only move a very short distance before disappearing, so you'll have to be close and quick.
I found out the hard way you can't jump on these orbs unlike the beginning of the level, so...don't try it. The boss is just up ahead.
The boss is...well, a literal Robot Chicken. Whip this switch when it is underneath the chute to drop the bombs on it. Do it 5 times for the next phase to begin.
Damn, I got lucky there. Made it look easy, but I can tell you it's anything but.
You and the chicken will be transported to a never-ending falling section with spikes on the side. Shoot it without letting it poke you with its pronged...thing.
It takes 20 hits to kill it and it releases bombs after each hit.
After the 15th hit, it releases egg bombs that circle towards you, so be careful.
On a random note, this is the only level besides the final one where Jim does not whip out his rocket and fly off to the next race against Psycrow.
And, missed the Whoa Nellie again.
Hey! That was mine!! Get back here, you ***!!
Take that, ***!!
Meh, I wanted to go for the continue, not that I really need it.
Sure are a hell of a lot of asteroids in this one.
Got the continue!!
Alright, longest level is taken care of (finally). The next level is one of the worst kinds of levels ever...an escort mission. Ja ne!!
