Themes of punk clothing take two. We're going to talk about some of the major themes that
run through the various threads of punk clothing. Now, the number one thing would be skinny
cut jeans and so I?m wearing some dark jeans. They would only be dark black or navy blue.
These aren't even as slim cut as the jeans that both men and women would be wearing.
That's really a basic staple. They might be tucked into the boots the boots that we talked
about or worn with sneakers. But, skinny jeans, once again that was in contrast to the bell
bottoms and flares that were popular in the seventies and eighties. The major patterns
associated with punk are one flannel, which is working class, goes with the anti-consumerist
ethos of punk. And then I have this great jacket that's actually going to exemplify
almost the other trends I have to tell you about. This is a jacket. Leopard is the other
big print in punk. I mean you see some stripes and things like that, but generally it's plaid
and leopard. Leather is a huge one. The use of slogans, both slogans to deliberately provoke
people and slogans, anti-racism slogans and things like that that came afterwards are
on here. In addition, we have the spikes and studding that I had talked about with the
bracelet. And you'll notice that everything on here is worn in. Is worn in and it's personalized.
So, it doesn't look new. It looks like maybe he got this from somebody who wore it for
thirty years. And that's really the basic of every punk look.
