Welcome to Water Wisdom sponsored by Waterfilters.NET. Here we have a typical compression fitting;
3/8 inch female compression on this end, 3/8 inch male pipe thread on this end. Here we
have 3/8 inch outside diameter water line. This will be measured outside to outside by
setting a tape measure next to it. This would go inside of this ferrule nut, which then
attaches to the compression fitting, and of course this would be tightened down with a
wrench or an appropriate tool, and that’s it, there’s nothing to it. This water line’s
not going anywhere, and you have your standard compression connection. Now for Quick Connect
fittings, it’s a little different. Here we have a quick connect fitting, and there’s
no threads or anything special, you simply take a naked water line, this is again a 3/8
inch outside diameter tubing, and stab it into this Quick Connect fitting like this.
And that’s it. Now if you look closely, this little collar, I’m trying to pull the
water line out but it won’t come unless I hold this collar down with this handy little
removal tool. Place the tool over that, hold it down, and then the water line pops right
out. Quick Connect fittings, it’s the new technology. People often wonder, “How can
it work? Am I going to be leak free?” They’ve worked for years and they’re very popular
and much easier to work with in most situations. Quick Connect fittings are a tried and proven
technology trusted by professionals. Here is an exploded view showing the internal structure,
and here is a cutaway view showing the same.
