Late last November
took place in Strasbourg the World Forum for Democracy.
This event, organized by the Council of Europe,
presented initiatives from organizations from all over the world
that aim to consolidate and improve democratic processes
This year the “Labs” that took place in different rooms of the Council
have focused on the tools and experiences of digital democracy
divided in 4 mayor themes:
1. Alternatives to representative democracy?
2. Towards Democracy 2.0 ; 3. Governing with Citizens
and 4. Envisioning the future
During the Forum the Kyopol Association
had a stand at the “Democratic Innovation Fair”
In this space we established dialogues with experts and forum’s participants
on topics related to the local digital participation
and our CitYsens platform.
In this way we obtained feedback and perspectives
from researchers, politicians, experts and citizens themselves
which are all the target users of our system.
At the booth of CitYsens three interesting dialogues were developed.
We started with a dialogue on “Integration of online & offline participation"
with Anthony Zacharzewski, from "The Democratic Society", as presenter.
Then, in “Insurrectional Techno-politics at the municipal level"
Prof. Schmmiter, from the European University Institute in Florence
led the meeting.
Finally, in the third dialogue, “¿Does anybody rely care...
…about citizens deliberation?" we talked about the future
of citizen deliberation with the promoters of Loomio, from New Zealand.
The Spanish civic association "Kyopol - Symbiotic City" was chosen to present
the project to create the CitYsens system, and to reflect
about the situation of local democracy in Spain
in the lab dedicated to “Local Digital Democracy”
The three digital initiatives that have been presented [in lab 15]
were indeed excellent and could allow more
citizen participation at the local level.
CitYsens is the Spanish project that aims to establish
a free and fair environment to increase local participation.
[...] Could indeed improve the democratic processes and systems
or could hinder them, or perhaps these platforms should remain citizen initiatives
without being too influenced by public authorities
and of course, it was quite evident that these were initiatives
emerging from civil society.
Establish better guidelines, best practices, standards and
hands-on toolkits so the Council of Europe, at the European level,
can take forward procedures that have proven to be useful
and effective and disseminate them at the national and local level. Thanks!
CitYsens, from Kyopol, Spain... prepare to vote
Voting starts.
Once the event have concluded, and with the approval of CitYsens
by the vast majority of conference attendees
the Kyopol Association hopes that this experience will contribute
to continue building the future of CitYsens.
A future that is on his way, looking for new alliances and sources of support.
A future that is already underway.
