Let's take a look at standard HS 2 in the health and safety domain.
This standard is broken into 3 and 4 star levels.
Remember, if you're applying for the 4 star designation, you also need to meet the criteria for the
3 star level. If the program meets the criteria for the 4 and 3 star
levels, they will automatically meet the 5 star level for HS 2.
Standard HS2 states children are provided instructions, support on safety rules and expectations.
For a 3 star level we're asking applicants to provide a copy of their program safety rules.
For example, an excerpt from a handbook, a copy of
written rules, or a photograph of the rules posted
would all be acceptable forms of evidence for this standard.
The safety rules must be child focused. Rules that are
to be repeated and reinforced with children not adult focus rules.
For 4 star level, in addition to the evidence for the 3 star level, applicants need
to provide a written description
of instruction provided to children on safety rules and expectations
that demonstrate the criteria in these two bullets. We're also requiring a written example
of a naturally occurring instruction in the program. This would be a specific example
of an experience or event which demonstrates the criteria for this standard.
Programs that pass both the 3 and 4 star levels automatically pass the 5 star level.
Always label your evidence and make it easy for reviewers to find.
Highlighting where you want reviewers to look is also a very helpful practice.
