University of Louisville is crisscrossing the commonwealth in search of the best and
brightest students in Kentucky, moving westbound on this trip to Mayfield, McCracken and Marshall
counties, worth every mile. You know the importance of continuing your education. You know that
a college degree is more important than ever and so as we travel around the state, that's
one of our messages; the importance of a college degree in this changing, international, global
economy in which we live. UofL President, Jim Ramsey, loves telling the University of
Louisville's story. At Marshall County High School, he talks about the commitment UofL
provides its students. So, we're going to provide you all the academic support that
you need to be successful at the University of Louisville, the advising support, the counseling
support, opportunities for campus engagement, and so those are the things that we have to
offer to you. At Mayfield High School, he lets UofL junior, Luke Guhy, talk about the
student experience. They kinda wanted me to talk a little bit about why I chose to go
to the University of Louisville and, you know, what sets it apart from other schools that
you guys may be looking at. And for me, when I think about that, it's really three things
and the first thing is the quality of the classwork and the quality of the curriculum
and, like Dr. Ramsey was talking about, the faculty at UofL, and the education you're
gonna actually get when you go to school there is comparable to anything else you're gonna
get at any school in the nation. This is Luke's home turf. He was a football star and his
mom and dad are teachers here. It's really great to come back home to Mayfield High School
and talk to some of the kids who are looking at coming to the University of Louisville
and I really enjoyed letting them know what I've experienced and what I've been through
and the road that I've taken to get to Louisville and how I've enjoyed it so much and just kinda
helping them make their decision. I've always kinda wanted, had Louisville in the back of
my mind, but just him being up there and, you know, hearing what he has to say and all
the great things that are going on at the University of Louisville, it definitely helps
in the fact that, you know, Dr. Ramsey and Jenny and Luke and some of the other people
that came down and shared their stories. The fact that they can drive three and a half
hours and, you know, show how much they care about the students that are gonna, ultimately,
be going to the University of Louisville; it just means a lot. It shows that the staff
cares about the students that go there and it gives you, you know, you feel more secure
going to that school and you just get a better feeling about going to the University of Louisville.
I've always had college in the back of my mind, like going through high school, I was
always thinking what do I want to be, where do I want to go. I decided junior year that
I wanted to be an engineer and Louisville has a really good engineering program. Louisville
just seemed like the right decision to make. The trip wrapped up near Paducah, at the new
McCracken County High School, worth every mile to share the message that it is a great
time to be a Louisville Cardinal.
