My name is Michael Dela Cruz
My mother died when I was 8 years old
She was diagnosed with Breast Cancer
She was not able to detect her cancer due to lack of financial stability and information
Dancing with the beat is my passion
I dance and dance 'til the beat stop.
Because of dancing, I met a lot of people, and socialize with them
James is my best friend. We always hangout everyday.
Together, we hangout with my fellow dancers too.
Every break time,
We are like children playing at the park during break session and talk to each other
I live in a very healthy lifestyle
I wake up and sleep early
First thing in the morning,
I exercise.
I eat nutritious food for my breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I work for a family business that doesn't require much of my time.
During evening, I just relax, and read my newspaper.
One night, As I was going to take a shower.
I started itching in my chest,
and I had rashes on my ***.
became sore, and it had discharged.
It frightened me up!
I had never seen this before in my life
Weeks passed, I just ignored this.
I cannot stop itching my chest.
It hurt a lot
It continued within more weeks.
In my thoughts, I don't want to go to [a] check up.
I felt very anxious.
I cannot sleep!
I searched up online about what was happening to me.
As I read all my research,
It turned out [that] I might have breast cancer.
[A] Breast Cancer that is rare for men.
I went to a family doctor and had tests.
Dr. James told me that I might diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer.
He told me that out of 1000 people,
Only 1 gets breast cancer in general.
He explained that I have a genetic defect
called BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 Mutation.
that carries the risk of developing breast cancer.
He [also] mentioned that,
Like my mom had a breast cancer,
that also triggered out [the gene] as I aged.
The only way to take off this cancer
is to undergo Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy.
I went on it, and changed my diet
But, it was so hard for me, I wanna give up fighting!
I often experience symptoms such as, Vomiting and Diarrhea.
I want to give up!
I asked God,
Why do I have to suffer from this?
I was loosing my faith to God.
I feel, like God was punishing me for nothing.
As I looked up the sky,
I see hope.
Hope that restored my faith, and my purpose in life to fight my illness, and continue my mission in life.
My friends supported me as I had undergone my surgery
Five years later,
After my chemotherapy and all procedures that my doctor recommended,
My doctor called me up.
He told me that, my cancer is now gone.
I was very happy when I heard that news.
I felt very blessed 'cause God gave me another life.
to live in this world.
I continued my journey in life
In accordance in God's will.
By this time,
I learned that
Life is not about waiting for the storm to be over
It's about learning how to dance in the rain.
I am Michael Dela Cruz
and
I am a Cancer Survivor.
