Hello and welcome to My Weekly Geekery, the show in which I talk about what's been going on in my
geeky world over the past seven days.
Top story this week is that the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special, The Day of
the Doctor,
was on Saturday, with excellent ratings on both TV and in cinemas,
where in the UK box office it came third over the weekend,
and in the US it came second, only behind Catching Fire,
which had its opening weekend this weekend. I really enjoyed The Day of the
Doctor,
it had a few little plot holes, and I missed Christopher Eccleston
as I always do, but there were some wonderful moments and some wonderful ideas,
and SPOILERS, the ending with all of the Doctors
standing there was beautiful, and the surprise appearance of
Peter Capaldi was bloody brilliant. I love him already. It has been announced that the
Doctor Who Christmas special will be called The Time of the Doctor,
keeping with tradition of episodes being called The Something of the Doctor.
A promo picture has been released featuring the Silence,
the Doctor holding a Cyberman head, and Clara holding
a Christmas cracker and wearing a paper hat. There is a lot of confusion
about the paper hat on Tumblr, suggesting that
a lot of countries do not have the Christmas cracker tradition
that the UK does. So if you are a bit confused as to what the hell
Clara has on her head then watch The Christmas Invasion,
when the Doctor, Rose and Jackie have Christmas dinner together,
and you can see the entire Christmas crackers tradition unfold.
There are also Christmas crackers in Harry Potter. It's not just something we've made up,
okay, it is quite a long-standing tradition in this country.
A very brief teaser trailer for The Time of the Doctor was aired at the end of The Day of
the Doctor.
It featured the Daleks, a Cyberman, the Silence and Weeping Angels.
I have put a link to the wonderful The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot
in the description below. Do watch that if you get a chance.
It features Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvested McCoy,
Paul McGann and David Tennant, and includes many companions and guest stars from
Doctor Who's fifty year history.
An Adventure in Space and Time also aired last week
and that was, I think, one of the best dramas the BBC has ever put
on, so do watch that if you get the chance. A teaser trailer for Sherlock
series 3
has been aired by the BBC. The BBC has confirmed
that the first episode, The Empty Hearse, will air at some point between the 21st of December
and the 4th January in the UK. #SherlockLives.
And finally, a teaser trailer for Orphan Black series 2
has arrived. It's pretty short. The show returns to the US
on the 19th April 2014. We will have even longer to wait for it
in the UK. So in conclusion, The Day of the Doctor has finally
aired and we now get to look forward to The Time of the Doctor. Sherlock will be back relatively soon.
Orphan Black will be back but not relatively soon. This has been My Weekly Geekery.
