Hello, it's Diane from how-to-be-a-bad-artist.com.
Today I'm going to show you how to make one of these owl
greetings cards.
For a list of materials and to download a free template
visit my website: how-to-be-a-bad-artist.com
Using the template as a guide, cut out the head
and outer wings (I've chosen black paper),
the body and face of the owl
(I've chosen green paper) and the chest and
and inner wings in white, or any colour of
your choice. Save the offcuts of paper
for later.
Using a glue stick, glue the head
of the owl to the body; the face of the owl to the head;
the chest on top of
the body; and the inner wings
on top of the outer wings of the owl.
Using a bradawl,
punch a hole through the top of one of the wings and through the body of the owl.
Insert a brad
and secure it at the back
so that the wing is attached to the body.
You will need to do the same for the other wing.
The owl now has two moveable wings!
Glue the buttons for the eyes
in place.
Using a craft knife on a cutting mat,
make a small slit below the buttons
and insert the paperclip to form the owl's beak.
Use a bradawl to punch holes in the paper through the holes in the buttons.
This will make it easier to sew through the card.
Using a needle and embroidery thread,
sew stitches to hold the buttons in place
and to decorate the card.
Punch holes for each foot and sew stitches
to look like feet.
Using the reserved offcuts of paper, stamp out or cut out small shapes,
(I chose a leaf pattern) and glue
onto the wings and body of the owl to decorate. Using foam sticky pads,
attach the owl to the card blank. Write a greeting
on a square piece of paper and insert it under the paperclip.
The owl card is now finished.
