\fs26 \cf0 Looks like Apple is taking a whole new turn in the way it describes its built-in
map app. In a rare event the company did a little re-editing to the feature\'92s website
description. {\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK "http://www.katu.com/news/Apple-CEO-Tim-Cook-extremely-sorry-for-problems-with-new-maps-171788341.html?m=y&smobile=y"}}{\fldrslt
\cf3 \ul \ulc3 KATU has the old wording and why it just doesn\'92t work.}}
\fs24 \cf2 \
\fs26 \cf0 "Apple calls it the most beautiful, powerful mapping service ever. It is pretty,
but good luck finding your way. Want to get to Sausalito from San Francisco? Apple tells
you to take a ferry ... And it tells you landmarks in Tokyo don\'92t exist, when they clearly
do.\'94 \f1\fs24 \uc0舲 舲
\f0\fs26 Now after several weeks, countless disappointing critiques, and an unheard of
amount of user complaints, we have a different description.
\f1\fs24 \uc0舲 舲 \f0\fs26 \'93Those heavy adjectives have been
stripped and \cf2 replaced \cf0 with this sentence..dealing more with interface than
overall quality: \'85 \'93a beautiful vector-based interface that scales and zooms with ease.\'94\'94
\fs24 \cf2 \uc0舲 \
\fs26 \cf0 So would Apple have been better off to take a step back and use the less glorifying
description to begin with? \'a0{\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK "http://www.labnol.org/internet/apple-maps/25712/"}}{\fldrslt
\cf3 \ul \ulc3 Digital inspiration seems to think so.}}
\f1\fs24 \uc0舲 舲 \f0\fs26 \cf2 \'93Not once did they mention
that the service had any limitations or problems. \'85 [it] would not have become such a laughing
stock worldwide had they set the right expectations in the first place.
\f1\fs24 \cf0 \uc0舲 舲 \f0\fs26 \cf2 The new description shouldn\'92t
be a shock though \'85 {\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK "http://www.geekosystem.com/apple-maps-copy-change/"}}{\fldrslt
\cf3 \ul \ulc3 Geekosystem says Apple had a responsibility}} to make the edit.
\f1\fs24 \cf0 \uc0舲 舲 \f0\fs26 \'93Apple\'92s website will, or at
least should, always be the most unilaterally positive force behind all of the company\'92s
products. \'a0\'85 The change isn\'92t surprising \'85 It solidifies the notion that Apple maps
not only constitutes the company\'92s greatest misstep in years, but also it\'92s first retreat
in recent memory.\'94 \f1\fs24 \uc0舲 舲 {\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK
"http://www.digitaltrends.com/apple/why-the-internet-turned-down-overreaction-road-on-apple-maps/"}}{\fldrslt \f0\fs26 \cf3 \ul \ulc3 Digital Trends has
a different take}} \f0\fs26 \cf2 on the fail. They think the
biggest problem with Apple Maps is the media\'92s overreaction.
\f1\fs24 \cf0 \uc0舲 舲 \f0\fs26 \'93We\'92re used to seeing high-quality
experiences from Apple. There is dramatic tension in the idea that Apple may have made
a miscue. That dramatic tension is also the reason that news coverage of the Maps app
has been so thorough.\'94 \f1\fs24 \uc0舲 舲 {\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK
"http://www.cnn.com/2012/09/29/opinion/mayer-apple-google/index.html"}}{\fldrslt \f0\fs26 \cf3 \ul \ulc3 But CNN says something
happens}} \f0\fs26 \cf2 as users get more comfortable
with their devices. \f1\fs24 \cf0 \uc0舲 舲
\f0\fs26 \'93 \'85 there's a justified sense of entitlement that the application they've
come to rely on will continue to provide the functionality they've come to expect. To put
it another way, discovering that there's no longer transit directions when you're looking
to find the bus home is never a nice surprise.\'94 \f1\fs24 \uc0舲 舲
\f0\fs26 \cf2 Apple CEO, Tim Cook, apologized for the Maps app in a letter posted on the
company\'92s website on Friday. \fs24 \
