Tired of taking the same trips around Earth every year? Well, if you have an endless amount
of money — you’re in luck. British space business Excalibur Almaz is offering a trip
to the moon. But KNXV reports its not going to be cheap.
“A British company say it would charge would-be astronauts—get this—$200 million a pop
for a space flight around the moon and back.”
Passengers will have to go through training prior to launch in case anything were to go
wrong. On the big day, they’ll shoot up to one of the company’s two space stations
and launch once more into the Moon’s orbit. (video source: Excalibur Almaz)
And engadget says the cost doesn’t cover comfort.
“...there's just two habitation modules that will take three people each, and the...
trip isn't going to leave much room for perks other than an isolated room in the event of
a solar radiation blast...Anyone who travels needs to be in tip-top shape...Be sure to
pack your gym shorts and a briefcase full of cash.”
But the CEO of Excalibur told the Wall Street Journal — this trip isn’t for tourists
looking to sit back and catch a glimpse of a few craters.
“Tourists just go to look at what’s there. These people will be doing real science. They’ll
go further than anyone’s ever flown...and they’ll conduct some of the best science
that can be done today.”
RT reports the space company is expecting to take around 30 people by the end of 2025
— with the first launch expected in 2015.
