My name is Sanae Ellbrahimi. I'm with the School of Community Health Sciences with the
University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I'm a Masters student in the MPH program. I'm in my last
year, I will be graduating in the fall. I was also admitted to the PhD program so I
will start my PhD in epidemiology and biostatistics in the Spring of 2014. My first time to NAACCR
is this time and I presented a poster about racial disparities in terms of stage of, stage
at diagnosis of cervical cancer in Nevada. I used data from the Nevada Central Cancer
Registry. I was very excited to work on this project and winning this award means a lot
to me, especially since this is my second poster ever as a student that I presented
and, in this big conference, as the conference with NAACCR, it's an amazing thing to have
for a student on your record. I'm sure I'll be referencing that I won this poster award
throughout the rest of my academic career and also my professional career because I
do want to continue in this field, in the field of cancer surveillance. So, always referencing
this, I'm sure it will help me a lot and I do want to recognize - well, this is a recognition
for my hard work so far. I am a full time student, full time employee, also full time
mother. I worked really hard to get here so this is definitely recognition for my hard
work but it is also recognition for my collaboration with my mentor, my advisor, Dr. Paulo Pinheiro.
He has really supported me and guided me to get here. To work on several projects, not
just this one but several other projects and I'm sure, um... I mean working on these projects
as a student helped me not just be a recognized student in my program but also, now, within
the professional community. I'm very, very happy to be here - this is my first time at
NAACCR and I'm sure I'll be coming back, and back, and back. I really thank the organizing
committee and everybody at NAACCR was so, so nice. I made so many connections. They're
very, very valuable connections by coming here so I urge really, really everybody to
come. Thank you.
