My name is Anthony Maddaloni and I'm going to be talking about how to fill flash using
a Nikon SB800 flash. Nikon flashes have a menu on the back of the flash. It's incredibly
important to look at this menu and essentially figure it out. There is a built in fill flash
which is amazing on the SB800. And you want to think about what fill flash is. When I
first started photography, I was really, I was really stunned that people would use a
flash on a sunny day. What in the.. why were they using a flash? And then when I really
looked at a scene, I would see shadows, I would see potentially somebody wearing a ball
cap, or just light shadows going across their eyes. And when the photographer who had their
flash set accurately, that would take that shadow out. So on the back of the SB800 there
is a series of about five dials. And there's menus and you have to go through all these
to get to the part that is the fill flash. There's also a part that will say TTL. These
are two very important parts of that SB800. You want to set it with the right ASA that
what you're shooting at. This is vital. if you have the wrong ASA your flash is not going
to understand what you're doing. You also want to make sure it syncs up with whatever
kind of camera that you're using. Different flashes work better with certain brands of
cameras. There's also a difference between a truly digital flash and flash that was made
for film cameras. It took me a while to understand that too. But that's really a pretty, pretty
hard fact. So that is just some tips on how you would use your SB800 digital flash.
