Did you know that Gintama's Kawakami Bansai and Ruorini kenshin's
himura kenshin are both inspired by another of the 4 legendary hitokiri's, kawakami gensai.
often regarded as the strongest of the four, Gensai although only definitively having killed
one pro-western tokugawa retainer, has been credited for countless more assassinations
towards the end of the edo period. The feminine look of himura kenshin is based on gensai
often times being mistaken for girl, a guise which hid the incredible capacity for ***
dwelling within. Although he played a major part in the meiji
restoration, once the Meiji government had realised he was more a liability than anything,
he was also executed, beheaded and shamed. Like Okada Izo, Not granted the right of the
warriors death. Whilst the romanticism behind kenshin's change
of character and his refusal to harm and only protect made for good, light hearted reading
and watching, the man behind the character appears to have been a much more callous and
unforgiving soul.
