Hi All, I am Gaboni, and I want to show you a new project
in which I am working with the colaboration of jzfilms of Simulaje.
As you see, it is a replica of a F1 display of 2013 season
It is similar to the Display XR, in which I worked several years ago
But it includes several improvements that makes it more interesting
The main improve is that, instead of using 7 segment displays
We are using 14 segment displays, alphanumeric
Also of a bigger size, like the real ones
This means that now the letters can be shown properly
Because with the 7 segment some letters looked ok
But many other letters didn't look so good
The display also includes a controller board
In which we can connect up to 20 push buttons,
Up to 4 Rotary switches,
Up to 4 encoders,
6 External LEDS,
Also, It is possible to use some inputs as analog inputs
So we can connect analog paddles
Or Analog Controls to use it in the game
The display will be available in two versions
The GS-Lite version
which includes the controller with 20 buttons, 4 Rotarys
4 Encoders, 6 external leds and the analog inputs
So, for some kind of applications it can be very useful
In the other hand we have the GS-Pro version
That also includes the board with the displays and LEDs
This is the complete version.
Ok, I will show you how does it works
For this purpose I will use rFactor 2
in the circuit of Montreal, in Canada
we will use the mod of the racerfactor championship
let's start the engine...
Ok. Clutch, First Gear... Let's go!
Ok, I will start talking about the push buttons
These are normal push buttons with no particularities
But we can configure it to work in alternate mode
So when we press for first time the button it remains activated
And then we press again the button and it will be released
This can be very useful when controlling with these buttons
Thinks like DRS or KERS
Or using the button to things like talk with the Team Speak
It is very useful
I use this button for Team Speak
When I press the button
The button remains pressed
Until I press it again
And the button is released
Also I've assigned an external LED to show the status of the button
To check in which state is the button
Addition to buttons, we have the encoders
encoders are very simple, as you know
encoders are a rotary control
when you turn it to one side it presses one button
And when you turn it to the other side it presses another button
These are very useful to control things like brake balance, engine boost and so
Also we have the 12 position rotary switches
They can work as fake encoders
or they can work to control display parameters
Here I have a multifunction switch
that can be used to view and change the configuration of the display
Or we can assing a parameter directly to one rotary
Display contrast, for example...
Or the clutch configuration
Now I will show you how does the clutch works
let's stop the car...
If we want a clutch in our wheel we have two options
We can use an analog input with an analog paddle
Or we can use the 3-state digital clutch that comes with the display
the 3-state clutch works with two push buttons
we will have two buttons or two paddles
With both buttons pressed the clutch will be 100% pressed
releasing one paddle, the clutch will be at 50%
or the value that we set in the display
with both paddles released, clutch is not pressed anymore
And 100% of the engine power is transmitted to the tires
in this way we can made a very good start, very efficient
Without the needing of using an analog clutch
with these three steps we can start with very little sliding
First, we press both paddles, engage first gear and accelerate
Then, release one paddle
when traction is good, release the second paddle
And we continue shifting up
As you have seen, the start have been pretty good
without glide
and fully accelerating without the needing of an analog clutch
I will explain now the LEDs
All leds are independent and fully configurable
both the display leds and the external ones
We can assign different functions for the leds
Like to show the engine RMP
or to show the remaining fuel
or when the engine reaches certain temperature
We can also assign the flags to the leds
a lot of things
We also can assign things like the DRS
we can switch a led on when the DRS is activated
and turn it off when the DRS is deactivated
Although we can do it at the opposite, wich is more useful
i.e: turn the led on when DRS is off but it is available
and turn it off when DRS is activated
in this case, when using rFactor2
It is possible to know in which zones is available the DRS
and in the race it show us when is possible to use DRS
This means that now I have my DRS led switched off
because I am not in the DRS zone
but I will now enter in the back straight
and the led will light when entering in the DRS zone
Here is it
Now I activate DRS
and if I brake
the DRS is deactivated
so the led lights again
this means that we are in DRS zone but it is not active
if I activate it, the led switches off
if I leave the DRS zone, the led won't light because it will be not available
and if I press the button it does nothing
like the DRS, leds can be used also to control the KERS
If I map the KERS button
it will show the use of the KERS
At the begining of the lap, KERS use is restarted
now we have seen the remaining KERS in the display
but we can also see may other data like this
which is the GAP time with my last lap
or my best lap
or the best lap of another driver
it is configurable
we also have the speed in the other display
but I can change it with a rotary switch or buttons
I can choose which data I want to see
we have 12 positions
and I can choose which data is shown in each position
things like remaining laps,
remaining engine life,
laps completed, position,
time, remaining session time,
temperatures... a lot of things
All this is fully configurable from the application
Finally, let me try to do a spin
(if I can)
ok, more or less...
I just want to show you this
it is the antistall mode of the car
probably you have seen it before in onboard videos of accidents and spins
well, it is a nonsense...
but we like to implement these kind of details
so the response of the display is the more similar possible to the real one
saving the distances, obviously
ok, just wanted to show that
I think that we have covered most of the capabilities of the display
Although it is still under development
there is still more things to come
It will be avalilable soon in the Simulaje website
I hope you have liked it
let's stop the car
shutdown the engine
thank you very much for seeing the video
Bye!
