My name is Danielle Kelly,
and I am a junior fine arts major
with a minor in art history, and I'm from Northbridge, Mass.
I would say my experience at AIB has been awesome.
I've really found that there's a lot of opportunities
for me to take advantage of, and within everything,
you kind of... you can get out as much as you put in.
I found, you know, there's clubs to be involved in,
the classes are totally engaging.
It's just a great social environment,
but also just a great working environment.
I've been pushed out of my comfort zone.
I've been really encouraged to try new things.
I mean, I just can't say enough good things about it.
As a fine arts major, I've found that
there's a huge range of electives that you can take.
Unlike some other art schools, you don't have to declare
a focus area here.
So within fine arts, you know, I could take a painting class
one semester, I could take a sculpture class,
I could take them both the same semester.
And with that, I mean, you do have to find your own
sort of focus on what you want to do,
and as you get towards, you know, your junior year
and senior portfolio, you do kind of fall into
something that you really love.
But along the way, especially that first year
and that second year, you can take electives everywhere.
And coming into our school, I had no idea
what I wanted to do with my life,
what I wanted to focus in.
And, you know, I didn't want to declare that.
And so yeah, I think I've learned a lot
of awesome skills, but I've also kind of
just learned in general, like, just want being
an artist is, and knowing, you know, if I want to be a painter,
it doesn't mean I can't also work 3D.
And that's something that AIB really encourages.
Yeah, the AIB and Lesley connection
is totally key to my experience here.
I've taken advantage of the cross country team.
I've been involved with some of the clubs,
including the dance club, the Office of Community Service,
and their events, and all the things
that go along with living on campus,
like the comedians and the open mics and things like that.
So really, having that collegiate experience
has been huge for me.
Being part of a sports team while still going
to an art school was an awesome experience
that I wasn't expecting.
And yeah, I mean, Lesley offers a totally different view.
It's not all artists.
It's a totally different college experience.
And so to kind of have that at our fingertips
as well as having the art school is awesome.
And I love living in Cambridge and then going to school
in Boston.
But I also just love, you know, the whole city
in general, so it's really great.
