It was a cold night in LUSH Town.
Snow on snow...
Cold enough to freeze a guys heart.
But when that dame walked into my office
I could have melted away.
She wafted in like a breeze on a seaair
The girl was bewitching, an absolute delight
- her hair spun gold over creamy smooth skin
and a dress wove from pure temptation.
Man, I could almost see her silky underwear.
"You gotta be more than mortal to be dressed up like that on a night like this.” I said.
“Hot java?”
The dame wasted no time getting to business.
“My name is Honey,” she said. “Honey Waffle.
I want you to find someone for me, Mr Retro. I was told you were the best.”
“As long as you’ve got the dough, it’s my pleasure. Take a seat.” I said
and she began to tell me about her sore labours.
She was looking for her man, a kid named Lentil. I knew him.
Gentil Lentil, a bit of a wuss, but a good guy.
Recently though, he’d gotten caught up in the wrong crowd,
and now someone had been bumping off his goon friends one by one.
The Sicilian, a key player in the Narcotic trade.
But Honey told me someone had greased that greaseball.
Well, wherever he was pushing up daisies,
they’d be forever in bloom on that dirtbag.
Pineapple Grunt. As heavy as a hammock of hammers and about half as smart.
It didn’t take much for someone to put him in the slammer.
Even that Limey smoothie Senator Charles Potion had been smeared all over town.
Last I heard he’d gotten a one-way ticket on the Gumback Express outta here.
No one knew who was rubbing these guys out.
Some said the Mafia, but Honey told me
she’d heard Lentil mention a guy, just called himself ‘Mr Big’.
And now she feared Lentil was next.
I asked when she’d seen him last, she said
- “He was going to meet Mr Big at the Ice Hotel. 13, Rabbits Street.”
I tried to put on a reassuring smile.
“Ne Worry Pas. I’m on the case"
I’ll find your Lentil and have him back for breakfast.”
“It’s a date”, she said, beaming.
I wanted to ask her more, hell, anything to get her to stay,
but she said she was busy.
‘Never too busy to be beautiful’, I thought.
I didn’t know if I could find her Lentil.
I didn’t even know if I’d see her again.
But that’s what it’s like in LUSH Town.
There’s no absolution.
Old friends go, and we try to get them back.
Some you might lose, but aah…
when you win, the smell of success is all the sweeter.
