John Arthington: This is our 70th anniversary at the Range Cattle Research and Education
Center, and about every 18 months we have a field day.
Dusty Holley: The folks here at Ona work with our cattlemen's association to think about
what we need to look into? What do we need to research? What will help you guys out in
the field? Be more productive and be more efficient and be better stewards of the land.
Sharon Sexton: I’m so excited to see what’s happened in it’s growth and getting everyone
together to share the information.
John Arthington: This has been a special field day not only because of the 70th anniversary
but because we had the special guests that we brought in. And Dr. Temple Grandin who
is a world-renowned animal livestock handling specialist and Curt Pate who is an equestrian
clinician and also an expert on doing demonstrations and training people in livestock handling.
Temple Grandin: It’s really important for universities to work really close with cattle
ranchers and people that are producing cattle. So you can do research that’s going to help
the industry.
Dusty Holley: If you can do some experiments in a controlled environment and let us know
how does it effect the efficiently of the beef cow efficiency or growing the grass,
that can be turned right back around for profitability for our cattlemen.
John Arthington: Cattle producers in this state are very interested in methods, science
and different ways to better grow their animals and manage their animals so they can be healthier,
more productive and more profitable.
Temple Grandin: Cattle and other animals are sensory based thinkers, they don’t have
words, so their memories are pictures, their memories are sounds, and when it comes to
cattle and cattle handling, vision is the dominant sense.
Sharon Sexton: Knowing that you can call these men, we have a history now knowing these professors
and now my son knowing these new group professors and it is just a personal relationship with
the university and they are always so willing to help.
