At the January seventh Board of Commissioners Meeting, Tracy Sample, from the Tax Department
made a presentation concerning the two thousand and thirteen Revaluation of property in Currituck
County. This process is carried out every eight years pursuant to the North Carolina
General Statute one, zero, five -- two, eight, six. Notices of the new values are expected
to be mailed to taxpayers near the end of February two thousand and thirteen. Mr. Sample
also mentioned the new Tags and Tax changes to automobiles in the state of North Carolina.
Beginning this year, when your license plate is due for renewal, you'll need to pay your
automobile tax, have your car inspected and pay the renewal fee. Let's see a short clip
of his presentation now.
>> Tracy Sample: They were also advertised that these schedules were in my office for
inspection if anybody wanted to. It eam I see those and also advertised that they were
posted on our website. As far as the revaluation we're getting near the end the revaluation
for about a year looking to sales, visiting the properties they can look at them.
We are looking at near the end of February first to March to send out revaluation notices
to all the people.
>> Paul O'Neal: the main question most people want to know is when will they know what their
new value is.
>> Tracy Sample: that will be near the end of February, first of March
>> Dan Scanlon: so those rates become effective July first
>> Paul Martin:> Can you explain please; change in the tax laws on paying personal property
taxes on your automobile
>> Tracy Sample: Starting with people that renew their vehicles after September, July
first will get registration invitation to renew the registration from the former vehicles
it'll have the twenty eight dollars fee or however much your registration fee is. It
could have been higher. A lot of vehicles are twenty eight dollars will also have your
county taxes right on the invitation to renew your registration.
You have to pay both to renew your vehicle. Three things you have to do; pay your taxes
get your car inspected and pay your registration fee. We are sending out notices new .in the
uh... motor vehicle tax bill that we send out now explaining the new regulation is coming
up
