Introducing the BladderScan BVI 3000 bladder volume instrument.
A portable ultrasound device that quickly, accurately, and noninvasively
measures bladder volume to help assess common urological problems.
The BVI 3000 consists of a battery-operated LCD display console,
an ultrasound probe that scans the patient’s bladder,
and a pair of rechargeable batteries with a charger.
The BladderScan BVI 3000 is designed to scan in 2 patient-specific modes.
To begin, simply press the scan button.
Then, press the gender button to select the appropriate setting.
Select to scan a male patient, or a female patient who has had a hysterectomy.
Or, select to scan a female patient who has not had a hysterectomy.
Have the patient lie in the supine position,
palpate the patient’s *** bone, and place an ample quantity of gel midline
on the patient’s abdomen, about 1 inch (or 3 centimeters) above the *** bone.
Locate the patient icon on the probe.
Make sure that when the probe is placed on the patient’s abdomen,
the head of the icon points toward the head of the patient.
Place the rounded end of the probe on the ultrasound gel and aim it toward
the expected location of the bladder.
For most patients, this means angling the probe slightly toward the patient’s coccyx.
Press and release the scan button on the probe.
Hold the probe steady during the scan.
When you hear a beep, the scan is complete.
The aim is accurate when the bladder image is centered in the crosshairs
of the console’s aiming icon.
If the bladder is not centered, re-aim the probe and re-scan the patient.
To help you aim properly, visualize ultrasound waves being projected out of
the probe towards the patient’s body.
For example, if the bladder image is located to the left of the icon,
re-aim the probe so that it projects the ultrasound waves farther to the left.
Re-aim and re-scan to ensure that you have captured the bladder fully
in the ultrasound cone.
When the scan is accurate, press the done button to view the scan results screen.
Verify that the bladder image was completely contained in both the
vertical and horizontal scan planes.
If the bladder image overlaps the edge of the scan planes or appears to be cutoff,
press the scan button to return to the scanning screen and re-scan the patient.
When you have achieved an accurate measurement, press the print button twice
to print the exam result.
It’s that simple. The BladderScan BVI 3000 gives you the information you need -
quickly, accurately, and noninvasively.
