Hi I'm Bryan Barron the research and content director for Beautypedia.com, which is the
world's largest database of substantiated expert product reviews of skincare and makeup.
Beautypedia is where you can find reviews of over 300 different brands so you can finally
find out what products are worth using and what products are a waste of time or money
or even worse what products are hurting your skin and I'm here today to tell you about
our brand new award program that we're offering on the site and its called "The Best of the
Best". Any product, which is rated best, which is our highest rating is eligible for the
best of the best, which is only assigned to a select group of products that go above and
beyond the criteria we've established for each category. These products have really
impressed us they are the ones we personally recommend to our friends and family or those
that we actually use ourselves and trust me we get a lot of products crossing our desk.
For spring 2014 we are talking about six categories today and then there are several more online
but let's go through them one by one. The first category is moisturizers with SPF and
springtime if you're not using sunscreen year-round you really should be. Best way to keep your
skin looking healthy and young but moisturizers with SPF for spring absolutely something you
want to start putting in your daily routine. I have a couple I want to call out because
they are just really unique wonderful formulas. One of them is from Philosophy and it's there
Help Me SPF 30 Broad Spectrum Retinol Day Treatment Lotion that has about the longest
name ever but actually is a really nice formula that provides broad-spectrum protection and
treats skin to probably the most exciting, well-researched product anti0aging ingredient,
which is retinol. The other one that is a winner for oily, sensitive skins that has
a nice matte finish. It's not going to make your skin look shiny. It's not going to feel
heavy. It is the Paula's Choice Super Light Daily Wrinkle Defense with SPF 30. Not going
to leave a mineral white path it's going to sink into skin and actually make complexion
look better. The other two categories that I definitely wanted to hit on today are Leave-On
Exfoliants. So were not talking about scrubs. We are talking about products you put on to
improved skin in numerous ways. All skin types can use these types of exfoliants. We have
two categories Alpha Hydroxy Acid or AHA exfoliants, those are great for normal to dry sun damage
skin they can be used all over the face. The next category is Beta Hydroxy Acid or BHA
Exfoliants and those are a little bit harder to come by but when you find a good one its
definitely something you want to hold on to. A BHA exfoliant can improve skin in numerous
ways but is most beneficial for those who have sensitive skin, oily skin, enlarged pores,
blackheads, any kind of breakout or clogged pores. A BHA exfoliants used as part of your
daily routine is a game changer. One of my personal favorites is from Paula's Choice.
It is the Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid. It is a toner like product that you can apply
once or twice daily. It is really a remarkable product that can do an about face on your
skin and make it look amazingly smooth and bump free. The other one I like especially
if you are in the habit of using a primer before makeup is Smashbox's More Than Primer
Blemish Treatment. Really, really silky and this is medicated with salicylic acid which
is BHA so its kind of a double duty product in that it helps prime your skin for makeup
while also helping to reduce large pores and breakouts. Next category is self-tanners.
The only safe tan as you probably heard before is one you can get from a bottle. Not from
a sauna or a tanning bed. The self-tanners we really like particularly for normal to
dry skin. I love this one form the Too Faced brand it's called Tanning Bed in a Tube. Great
name. It's a nice self tanner that also contains good moisturizing ingredients. Another one
that is great is available in two different colors so to speak. There is a light medium
and a medium deep version and that is the Clinique Self Sun Self Tanning formula. Either
of these products can be used on the face and body. You don't necessarily need to go
out and buy a separate self tanner for the face and for the body unless your skin type
on the face is different from the neck down then you might want to consider a facial formula.
Maybe a gel if you're oily then a cream or a lotion from the neck down if you are more
dry in those areas. The last two categories that are essential for beautiful spring makeup
are Bronzers and Blush and a couple bronzers to tell you about at the Drugstore you can
find NYX Cosmetics Matter Bronzer. It is a best buy it is around $9 but I love the fact
that the colors are natural looking and they don't have shine. Real tan doesn't shine so
these matte-finished bronzer actually look a lot better than the ones that put too much
glitter on the skin. And then for blush a long time favorite and I know it's a very
popular brush. We absolutely agree sometimes something that's popular isn't necessarily
good for you. Think about cigarettes but Tarte's Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush is a little on
the pricy side at $26, but the colors are gorgeous and it really does hold up as long
as they say it does. So that was kind of a no brainer for us for the best of the best
award. You can read reviews of all of these products and check out all the other categories
that we awarded best of the best for 2014 by visiting beautypedia.com.
