Hello everyone,
there's still some questions on sectopods from Reddit, after my last video
so thought we'd uh,
take more of an in-depth look at them. But uhh...
this time...
with high explosives. [Arrrrgh]
Let's try this again
this time we're going to run everyone out of
the sectopod's line of sight
so that, really, it only has one target. And then we'll see if it tries
to use its laser twice, or if it behaves unpredictably.
Let's see what the sectopod does.
It takes its first shot, at the sniper up there...
and uses its mortar! Hmm...
very interesting.
Actually, uh, let's, uh, do something, let's see if mortar can hit air targets. And it can't, so the sectopod 's stupid.
It will, however, use its laser to attack, again, to finish off the sniper. *boom*
Ok, let's go for run number three.
Sniper's just gonna fly down here, sit him by the sectapod
Uh... heavy's going to cloak and watch
because he's a big filthy pervert
Let's see if the sectopod takes the easy kill
with two laser shots. There's one...
and the sectopod activates the mortar.
maybe it can't use the laser on two targets in the same turn (I misspoke :*().
Okay let's try something different this time. I'm just going to land the sniper down, and leave the heavy there
so the sectopod has its choice of targets. So the sectopod chooses the heavy. And, let's see what happens next.
It selects the sniper annnnnd... crits him in the face. Awesome.
So it looks like the sectopod
will preference two different targets, if it can.
Ok! So let's see if the sectopod will go after two guys in two different forms of cover
I'll leave the heavy in the open
and I'm going to leave the sniper in half cover and see if the sectopod chooses to preference him.
He takes a shot at the heavy. And... what the heck is it doing?
Oh, it's doing the mortar attack. Hmm...
except I have no idea who he's doing it on. Maybe it's... both...?
It does have a long area of effect but I
don't think its four squares.
Well, let's just take a look here.
Nope, it's just the heavy!
So, it looks like it still wanted to kill the heavy
but couldn't use its laser twice.
Uh... it seems that the laser is a one target per round weapon.
Let's check out what happens when we
hit the same sectopod with a bunch of disabling shots, next.
Ok! So all my snipers should be able to see the sectopod
and we're just going to hit it with
a series of disabling shots which should
theoretically disable all of its weapons.
Although the description for disabling shot says that it only disables it's main weapon,
so maybe like uh... multiple suppressions, it only does its thing one time and doesn't stack.
The sectopod is kind of unique in that
it has two different kinds of weapons, kind of like the heavy
with its normal gun and it's rocket launcher. And uh, well... you know...
theoretically
it should only disable the primary weapon. But let's take a look, shall we? I'm just going to hide the heavy...
we're going to be doing something with him, afterwards.
So let's end the turn...
And even after three disabling shots, the sectopod still has, at the very least, its laser weapon.
If it shoots at him again, it should use a mortar...
Nope, he selects the other sniper.
So this gives us an opportunity to have something else out. Um...
people noted that after you shoot a sectopod with disabling shot
it seems to have
unlimited overwatch shots and that's only after it uses its laser weapon.
The sectopod has no, uh, overwatch if it uses its mortar.
So let's test this out.
Heavy's going to run away. That's one overwatch shot, hopefully he doesn't die. And he doesn't. He's still running... there's another overwatch shot.
So, he does die from that, and his body
apparently flies halfway through the forest. Awesome
So let's move the snipers around. There's number three... it should kill him too.
And he lands in the same spot, apparently... oh, he fell through the map, awesome.
So, the medic gets antsy and he wants to run and heal those guys. Four. Although it's starting to get kind of wonky.
Number five
Now notice there's
about a one square period there? He can run one square without getting fired upon. This is six
Oh man, this medic is a CHAMP.
Three misses...
seven... wow.
This guy is awesome. Eight...
Oh-p, unfortunately he got shot
but, on the plus side, the sectopod hurt itself.
I didn't know that the overwatch had
area of effect. Uh, not that it really should matter. That's, ummm
Well that last one was nine, this is number 10. Miss...
yeah, he's going to keep on firing.
It's pretty safe to say, that after disabling shot,
presuming that last shot was a laser shot,
the sectopod does have
unlimited overwatch.
"But Ack Jammer," you say, "what if
it always has unlimited overwatch?"
Well, let's just test that out. Now, according to what we've investigated
so far, he should
shoot at two different targets with his laser. Yup, there we go, he's going to take
a shot at the heavy with his laser as well. Ok, so...
since he did use his laser weapon, he should have overwatch shots
Well, one overwatch shot...
since I didn't disable him, this time. Let's take a look... K, sniper's going to move down. There's the overwatch and that's a miss.
So, I'm just going to run around, in front of it.
As you can see, no overwatch activation.
So... it looks like
that is true. Oh!
Hey that's... that's a cool bug.
So it looks like it's true
the sectopod only has unlimited overwatch if you happen to have used disabling shot on it.
Which is
kind of interesting because you'd think that would take away shots instead of adding them.
Finally, we're just going to
test the area of effect on the sectopod's laser.
I'm going to move, uh, two squares away from the actual sectopod...
to see if it will smack itself, in the face.
I'm also gonna test
if it has overwatch after mortar
I'm pretty sure it doesn't but ah... oh, there it goes.
So it is two squares around its target. There we go... it went into mortar mode...
but let's see if it has overwatch.
As I was saying i'm pretty sure it doesn't but ah, you know...
the proof's in the video and OH MY GOD!
Did you see that healing beam? Jeeze
that was like a sniper healing beam.
Ah, speaking of snipers, I'm just going to run them up here
as you can see, the sectopod
is not raping them in
face so it definitely does not have overwatch.
I believe that
concludes most if not all
of the questions we've had about sectopods.
I hope you've found this... little...
video series interesting a plan to make more in the future. Until then, happy hunting and, uh, have fun with your XCom games.
Ack Jammer, out :).
