So the first thing you're going to need to do is center the clay on the wheel. Take your
nice round ball, throw it down pretty hard right in the center of the wheel. You're going
to want to take your body weight and lean on this splash pan, or put your elbow into
your hip, whatever you can do to be using your body weight to keep the heel of your
left hand stable. And your right hand, you're going to get your sponge, get it wet enough
that if you squeeze it water comes out but it's not dripping on its own. Now your right
hand is going to be doing all the work. It's going to be pushing towards the left hand.
First I'm going to get the clay a little bit wet. And then I'm going to push with my right
hand towards my left hand and upwards and then I'm going to make a fist and push down
with my left hand just stabilizing the clay and keeping it from spreading out. And my
left pinky, I'm pushing further in than the rest of my left hand so that I get a little
bit of an undercut here. That keeps the clay from spreading out across the wheel. Now once
it doesn't look wobbly, and it doesn't feel like it's moving very much, it's on center
and you're ready to move to the next step.
