McFarland Clinic is proud to offer Urgent Care offices in two of its communities, Ames
and Marshalltown. Susan Hanson, who works at the Ames location, and Kayla Danielson,
who runs the Marshalltown office, discuss services offered through Urgent Care and how
it has benefitted their communities. At McFarland Clinic Urgent Care, we offer services geared
toward the minor illnesses and injuries, such as sprains, strains. We do do minor lacerations,
repairs, incision, and drainages, as well as all of the acute illnesses, such as influenza,
sinusitis, sore throats, ear infections. It's a little more available for working parents
who maybe pick up a sick child at the end of the day from daycare or school, and the
doctors' offices are usually full by the end of the day. So, Urgent Care is available for
that. We have available services of the First Nurse. They help the person that calls kind
of make a determination on which area they should be in within the McFarland Clinic,
either through the Urgent Care or through the ER. Services are geared toward their symptoms
that they describe to the triage nurse. We do schedule appointments in Urgent Care, so
that would differ from an emergency room, where you just go in and kind of wait until
it's your turn to be seen. And I find that that probably is more appealing to patients
than having to sit in an emergency room for a non-emergent-type illness or sickness. We
do see a lot of patients that come through the door that don't even have an established
primary care provider. We're able to direct them to the person at McFarland to help them
establish with a primary care provider. For more information about McFarland Clinic's
