[music] Hello, I’m Dr. Neal Schultz
[pause]
and welcome to DermTV.
Hello, I am Dr. Neal Schultz, and welcome to DermTV. Today’s topic concerns
foot care and it comes from our friends at thebeautybean.com which is a
health and lifestyle magazine. And the question that they have asked is,
“are the razors at the salons really that bad because they make my feet
look and feel oh so much better, ‘and what about the dead skin removing
gels?’” This is really one of my favorite subjects because it concerns
exfoliation, and we are talking about two different forms of exfoliation.
Razor removal of dead skin is physical exfoliation, while gel removal and
really those gels are acids, is chemical exfoliation. Bottom-line: they
both work, but there are some pros and cons of both. With the razor removal
of your dead skin, certainly you get much more dramatic results and they
can go much deeper, but there is always the risk that you can get a cut or
even an infection depending on the sterility of the instruments and how
they prepare your skin. When you are using the acid gels, you do not get as
dramatic results, but it certainly is much safer. However, if you have any
fine cuts or scratches on your skin, you may get a burning sensation. So
again, it is really a matter of personal preference, which do you like
better, and that is the one that you choose. Please join me again at
