We wanted to find out what's important for kids today so we made a project to see the
world from their point of view.
My name is Robin Smith and I am essentially a product designer or inventor, and I modify
technology for a living. I was approached earlier this year to produce
a piece of technology that we could use to essentially capture the world from a child's
point of view. So what I am going to do, is put it on your
head, and then we can see what you are doing as you're running around the park.
So from the outset I decided that the best way to go about this was to look at some form
of head-mounted camera. Ok is that alright?
Bye bye Caitlin. When you actually think about the way children
look at the world, they see the world from a very, very different point of view, and
what we wanted to do, was essentially as an adult, remind ourselves exactly how the world
looks to a child and recreate that in a way that will bring back that sense of just how
vast the world is. I think what was really, really interesting
about the footage is realising firstly just how low to the ground children are,
And how their sense of space is very, very different.
You know, they get much closer to things and people, that we certainly wouldn't do as adults,
and the fact that they focus on such unusual things and how long they focus on things
That we probably wouldn't even acknowledge are there.
And it certainly is quite an experience realising just how different children's focuses are.
The world clearly inspires a certain amount of imagination that we adults just don't have
and I think seeing that and realising that is quite an exciting proposition and something
that is a unique experience.
