Once we have that gum disease treated and arrested, and the gums have reattached against
the teeth, and that little cleft is all sealed up, you can keep it clean yourself. So long
as you do do that, that will prevent the disease coming back, with the exception of the tartar
that forms on the teeth; that's porous and it hides the bacteria, somebody needs to clean
that off. It could be your hygienist, it could be your general dentist, it could be a periodontist.
The deeper that residual pocket, the more you're going to need a specialist periodontist
to prevent the disease returned. So we'll tailor-make your maintenance program around
how it looks after we've got rid of the disease.
